Memo to John Kerry: The best defense isn’t a good offense. As he stumped for California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides at Pasadena City College Monday, the junior senator from Massachusetts said the following:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
The remark, which first aired on a California TV station (with friends like Kerry, Angelides might as well pack it in now) was offensive beyond belief, not to mention simply wrong.
Kerry should have taken the advice of his one-time friend, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) who yesterday said Kerry “owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education.”
An apology would have been the way to go, but sometimes Kerry just can’t help himself. And so he issued one of his very special non-denial denials saying, “I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.”
Huh? The film clip, now up on YouTube, speaks for itself.
The real shame is that while John Kerry stumps around the country, building up chits for his own possible presidential campaign rerun, he still has that D-Mass. after his name. And that’s an embarrassment to the good people of this state who sent him to the U.S. Senate.

"...with friends like Kerry, Angelides might as well pack it in now..." Really. Angelides' message, such as it was, got lost in the shuffle. In most of the stories, he didn't even get a mention.
This is from the MSM? Are they that worried that they'll lose votes? This is just too much fun!

I'd like to agree here, but the 'good people' knew what they were getting and what he is, was and apparently always will be, is exactly what they wanted in Washington. If he's now an embarrassment, then so are those who voted for him.
I truly feel badly for those in MA who've always known he was at best a chump and at worst a traitor and never voted for him. Those are some brave souls, IMHO.
Gore was a pariah in his home state and could not even win its electoral college votes in 2000. If Kerry is becoming a pariah in Massachusetts, there may be more hope for the nation than I originally thought.
And it only took them 20 years to figure this out.

Kerry keeps saying it's a "botched joke."
No, It's a very good joke - if the audience was limited to Radio America listeners.

...and he will probably be reelected the next time his term is up...how sad is that!

The bigger question is when are the good people of Mass. going to stop voting for this jerk along with the next biggest ass in the senate Ted Kennedy?
Yanno... we've all screwed up a line here or there - meant to say one thing, actually said something else, maybe even something offensive or crude. It happens to all of us.
Problem is, all of us, when we do such a thing, immediately make a play of it, making funny faces, saying "lemme try that again, in English," or something along those lines. We show our embarrassment IMMEDIATELY - with one exception.
That exception is when we don't think we've said anything wrong. That's why Kerry's "botched joke" line doesn't work - because it's an obvious lie, and not even a very good one.
Nobody will want to be photographed next to him. The airbrushes are being filled with white ink to start air-brushing his image out of photos...
