WASHINGTON | The Bush administration’s decision to shutter a Web site that contains documents from Saddam Hussein’s covert nuclear program has renewed debate over the threat posed by Iraq.
On Friday, Republicans said that the documents, which predated the 1991 Persian Gulf War, provided a reminder that Hussein was a major risk. Democrats said that release of the information in the first place had been nothing more than a dangerous political ploy.
Established in March, the government Web site was intended to be a repository for millions of pages of documents seized in Iraq in the past 15 years.
It is not clear how many documents might contain potentially dangerous material. But the office of the national intelligence director, John Negroponte, suspended public access to the site on Thursday after The New York Times questioned whether some material provided too much information about making atomic bombs.
Negroponte’s office is also conducting a review. White House spokesman Tony Fratto said it includes a forensic examination — to determine who accessed the documents — and a fresh look at procedures to make sure that sensitive information is withheld from the public.

On the “Laura Ingraham Show,” she cited the documents in arguing that Hussein was a threat. “The interesting thing is that there clearly were an awful lot of nuclear documents floating around Iraq, which suggest that this is someone who’d not given up on his ambitions,” Rice said.

The Dems had demanded some papers be released. Obviously, it wasn't this series.

This should be interesting.
This is the part that concerns me though--that the MSM can keep saying this was all old stuff, and Saddam wouldn't just dispose of it.
Of course, a rational person would say "If you have no plans for using them, you would give these materials up to the inspectors to PROVE you were giving them everything." But as I said, I'm worried about the MS< not rational people.
I think JV translated some documents that indicate activities in the 2000-2003 timeframe.
