This is a good move......think very long term. China will rise and we will need all the "friends" we can muster when that showdown takes place.
I left way to many frineds DEAD and wounded over there to care one iota avout the rice burners. My preference is make it a large glass parking lot.and then put Willie der Slickmeister on top s a decoration...I hate everything about Vietnam...long term for me is just how far my rifle could nail one of these clowns. (Yes I am bitter)

I agree with you on that. If the US and China ever throw down, it would be nice to have an ally that has a border with China.
China and Vietnam hate each other. They tangled in the 80's, and the combat-hardened Viets kicked some Chinese ass.
