SAROMA, Hokkaido -- Nine people died and numerous others were injured here after their neighborhood was hit by a tornado on Tuesday afternoon, a local disaster management body said.At about 1:20 p.m., a tornado hit the eastern Hokkaido town of Saroma and destroyed several pre-fabricated structures used by construction workers at a tunnel construction site, according to the disaster management body in the Engaru district.
At least nine people died and numerous others are believed to have been injured. (Mainichi)

I was happily unaware of this until now ...Very rare here in Japan ...
two questions.....does Japan have tornados and
if so,does the tornado turn in reverse to here like a typhoon would ?

1) Every country on earth has tornadoes.
The US just has more than any other country on earth. A LOT more.
2) uh..no. Japan is in the northern hemisphere. Typhoons rotate counter-clockwise just like hurricanes.
That was my question, how often does Japan and this area have tornados?
Earthquakes and an ocational typjoon, but tornados?
Do they even have mobile homes there?
Should keep the democratic turnout low.
Japan has 12 tornades a year on average.(1971-2005)
Most of them are harmless.
I thought I'd heard of water spouts there but few tornados.
