Poland "misled" into joining Iraq war

2006-11-08, 15:58

Warsaw decided to take part in the war with Iraq on grounds of untrue information which it received from the US administration - former President of Poland Aleksander Kwasniewski has told a German daily. In an interview for "Der Tagesspiegel" Mr. Kwasniewski said that he heard about Iraq's mass destruction weapons from then US State Secretary Colin Powell himself. He added that now he would treat information supplied by intelligence "with more caution".

In his interview for the daily, the former Polish president also appealed to the German government for more activity in European politics - and not to make important decisions "over the heads" of Poles as in the case of the gas pipeline with Russia.

Damn it. The President and his gang has so screwed this up, it's not even funny.

How does this line up with the NYT report from this weekend? THE NEW YORK TIMES, not the Washington Times, THE NEW YORK TIMES said Saddam was within a year of a nuke.

Why is it that no one can agree on what the basic facts are here?!

He didnt say he was misled, he says they went in based on the same flawed intelligence that we had. If they were misled, then so was the Bush administration. This story is making it sound like we deliberately LIED to the polls. Sheesh, MSM, lickin its chops and lookin for more blood, and conservatives/republicans falling all over themselves like little children..

you are exactly right
the fractures started along time ago

with the rat party line "you lied to us about the WMD", now the disease is out there and the "Coalition " will crumble. One by one. The snickering intermeddling syria and Iran will call it a day... with victory. Empowerment by allah. the US dog ran with its tail between its legs etc etc. The crazies controlling the streets and will become both more bellicose and brazen.

look out

Here we go with an intense anti-President Bush campaign by countries hostile to ours. Watch as we get stabbed in the back by terror coddlers the world over.

They need to all get over themselves. Everybody had the same intelligence (except the media which never has any).

That's funny. What about this story from summer 2004?

WARSAW, Poland — Terrorists may have been close to obtaining munitions containing the deadly nerve agent cyclosarin (search) that Polish soldiers recovered last month in Iraq, the head of Poland's military intelligence said Friday.

Polish troops had been searching for munitions as part of their regular mission in south-central Iraq when they were told by an informant in May that terrorists had made a bid to buy the chemical weapons, which date back to Saddam Hussein's (search) war with Iran in the 1980s, Gen. Marek Dukaczewski told reporters in Warsaw.

"We were mortified by the information that terrorists were looking for these warheads and offered $5,000 apiece," Dukaczewski said. "An attack with such weapons would be hard to imagine. All of our activity was accelerated at appropriating these warheads."

Dukaczewski refused to give any further details about the terrorists or the sellers of the munitions, saying only that his troops thwarted terrorists by purchasing the 17 rockets for a Soviet-era launcher and two mortar rounds containing the nerve agent for an undisclosed sum June 23.

Oh, man! The rats are bailing out fast. I'm not sure I blame them; the US strategic umbrella is looking a bit uncertain. Watch for Russia to turn up the heat on the eastern front. The Baltics, Romania, Bulgaria must be feeling a bit queasy in the stomach just now.
