A Plano woman found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2003 drowning of her two daughters is now mentally stable and can leave a state hospital, a Collin County judge ruled Thursday. State District Judge Mark Rusch signed the order releasing Lisa Ann Diaz from Big Spring State Hospital in West Texas after a little more than two years. Judge Rusch said Ms. Diaz must remain on medication and continue treatment on an outpatient basis.

WHAT?
Free to go?
On an OUTPATIENT basis?
She literally got away with premeditated murder. She should be six foot under. This is a disgrace.

How do this medication issue work? Do we tax payers foot the bill for the rest of her life? Does she pay for it, does she have a job? What happens if she does not take them?

... and she promises never to do it again. Bet the judges let her take a job in child-care somewhere.

Is anyone surprised? They'll let out a mad dog if it doesn't have insurance and isn't voluntarily committed.

C'mon people. She just did what millions of people have been doing for decades. She just waited a few years to exercise her right to choose is all.
Needs a Moral Absolutes Pingout.
The death penalty is way, WAY under applied.

Any chance she may get struck by a fast moving vehicle?

George Dix, a University of Texas law professor who follows Texas insanity cases, said he sees nothing improper about Ms. Diaz's release, although it might be "some people's worst nightmare."
Ya think??

Well, here's a comment. Can the father of the children rip her heart from her throat and claim insanity?

If she's REALLY "fixed", and truly understands what she's done, she'll go find a nice, quiet spot and off herself.

If a male did the exact same thing, would he be allowed to go free after playing the victim???

My thoughts exactly. A sane person wouldn't be able to live with themselves.
I would never vote for a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity on a jury for just this reason. I imagine Andrea Yates (killer mom in Houston) is watching this and hoping to get out soon too.

Remember when Yates was found not guilty for the same reason? Many people were saying "don't worry, they won't release her."
This throws that into doubt...BIG TIME.
The law must be changed.

When feel-good Judges, defense lawyers, and juries fall for the false "not guilty by reason of insanity", it is a miscarriage of justice.
At least call it what it is - GUILTY by reason of insanity. But even then, a person has to be pretty sick to murder someone else in cold blood.
I have long felt that there are too many defenses for homicide. Simplify to:
Murder
Justifiable Homicide (self defense, defense of property, etc.)
Accidental Homicide (hunting accidents, auto accidents, other verifiable "accidents").
If my family member is killed by a supposedly "crazy" person, are they any less dead than if killed by a robber?
The only question to answer - did the homicide happen as a result of trying to hurt or kill someone, or was it an act of self-defense, or was it a true accident that resulted in the death.
No mitigating "I was abused as a child" defense.
Someone explain why this isn't fair. I cannot find anything in my copy of the US Constitution that would prevent such a simplified set of definitions, other than liberal judges rewriting the document.

Can the father of the children rip her heart from her throat and claim insanity? By the definition set by her case - why not?

Hmmmm! This woman is gonna need a job.
With her qualifications, I'd say a Day Care Center, babysitting, or perhaps a job in the new-born section of a hospital. NOT!!!!
How about rope tester for a gallows!
