Before I was deployed to Saudi Arabia from Germany, I bought a small Christmas teddy bear from the PX at Katterbach, Germany where we loaded up the equipment on the railroad cars. We were deployed a few weeks before Christmas.

This bear traveled everywhere in the desert, in my duffle bag, safe and sound.

Yes, it may sound corney, but this "lucky charm" kept me sane at times during the 5 months I was there. It had sand it when I came back to Germany, but that's okay. It's fading, but that's all right. It has memories attached to it now.
