Nancy Pelosi and the Treasure Island treasure chest
American Thinker ^ | Nov 15, 2006 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 11/15/2006 5:40:45 PM PST by wouldntbprudent

Dan Riehl of the Riehl World View has run two very interesting posts building on published material about Nancy Pelosi’s family fortune(s), and the possible role of (gasp!) political influence in securing lucre for relatives. The issue immediately at hand is Treasure Island, formerly the property of the United States Navy, a man-made isalnd in the middle of San Francisco Bay. It is being decontaminated at taxpayer expense, and plans are for it to be developed to house 6,000 families.

And here, including this:

Investigative journalists doing their jobs should dig deep—really deep—into Nancy Pelosi’s role in the controversial, $280-million, federal-funded Hunters Point Shipyard affair--in relation to her alleged role as an investor in a real estate investment entity called PRESIDIO PARTNERS.

Look past the fact that the 936-acre site, of which about 443 acres are not polluted and that Hunter Point Shipyard is the largest tract of undeveloped land in San Francisco.

Roll Call has stated that in early 2004, John Murtha “reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the City of San Francisco” and that “Laurence Pelosi, nephew of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at the time was an executive of the company which owned the rights of the land.”

But that’s only the most recent chapter of Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha and San Francisco’s largest tract of undeveloped land.

Please note John Murtha's role in this land grab. No wonder Nancy went to bat for Big John.

http://www.presidiopartners.net/ And here:

[snip]

In 1988, a US Army colonel, posted at the Pentagon alerted VERITAS USA'S publisher of an entity called Presidio Partners, that was apparently set up to position it's investors to take advantage of the land use opportunities offered by the closure of the Presidio. This officer named Nancy Pelosi as one of the investors in the "partners." When VERITAS USA contacted Nancy Pelosi's congressional office about this disclosure, she haughtily brushed the inquiry aside claiming, "she disclosed all of her investments according to the disclosure requirements."

But she didn't quote the requirements. When Jack Anderson's office contacted Pelosi, she also misled his inquiry concerning her investments in Presidio Partners. Jack Anderson was a respected national columnist, who trained under Drew Pearson; another famed ethical and competent true journalist and columnist.

Marguerite Warren, a retired civic activist and accountant was known as San Francisco's unofficial controller. Marguerite also raised questions about Presidio Partners and Pelosi's involvement in the disposal of federal military surplus land. Pelosi also stonewalled Marguerite. [snip]

Pelosi seems to have beefed up the value of her investment with a little taxpayer-funded park:

In an age of polarization, addiction to pork cuts across party lines. The $2 million for a public park in the Presidio of San Francisco added to Defense spending benefits the district of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, a leading attacker of Republican fiscal irresponsibility.

From a January 30, 2005 Novak article.

The same San Francisco that hates the military and is shutting down all ROTCs in S.F. But hey, military, if you have some money they'll take it and ask for more.

From the wiki entry on the Presidio:

One of main objectives of Presidio Trust’s program was achieving financial self-sufficiency by fiscal year 2013. Thanks to rents from residential and commercial tenants, this happened well ahead of schedule, in 2006. Immediately after its inception, the Trust began preparing rehabilation plans for the park. Many areas had to be decontaminated before they could be prepared for public use.

The entry goes on to detail that the park has tenants such as Lucasfilm.
