Excerpt -
The House of Commons has overwhelmingly passed a motion recognizing Québécois as a nation within Canada. Conservatives, most Liberal MPs, the NDP and the Bloc voted 266 to 16 in support of the controversial motion, which earlier in the day had prompted the resignation of Michael Chong as intergovernmental affairs minister.
Fifteen Liberal MPs voted against the motion, along with Independant MP Garth Turner.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper had introduced the surprise motion on Nov. 22, raising the ante on a Bloc Québécois motion that sought to declare Quebecers a nation without reference to Canada.
The motion states: "That this House recognize that the Québécois form a nation within a united Canada."

Next step, kick Quebec out of Canada and give it back to the French.

Give northern Quebec back to the first nations and then kick the rest out.

Then there'd *still* be a bunch of whiney wanna be French on this continent. At least give them back to France and make them discover the reality of what they want to be.

While we are at, let's give the city of New Orleans and John Kerry back to the French.

I don't blame Stephen Harper one bit for jetisoning that liberal liability.

Right. Like the reserves (reservations in America) aren't enough. Which part of America would you be willing to give up? Because that would be next. We have more tribes down here than in Canada.

by the same "rights" the french have, the chinese in Richmond should step forward and stake their claim. Same with the Ukrainians in Saskatchewan.... and the palestinians in toronto.

I was surprised the Bloc voted against separatism. I thought they were going to cut off their own nose to spite their face to tell English Canada to go take a hike. Apparently, Gilles Duceppe saw there wasn't much support for the Bloc's notion of a Quebec nationhood apart from Canada.

This has nothing to do with giving up Quebec. On the contrary, what this does is prevent Quebec from separating. It's a preemptive strike against the separatists in Quebec.
What this does is recognize Quebec as a nation within a united Canada, but NOT as an independent nation from Canada. Just like aboriginals are called First Nations or whatever and are recognized as such.
Quebec is recognized as a nation for their language, culture, and their contribution to Canada.. It doesn't give any powers to Quebec and at the same time, it keeps them from separating.

If Europeans had given the United States back to the 'first nations' there would be no freedom as we know it here today. There would have been no inception of America.

"Conservatives, most Liberal MPs, the NDP and the Bloc voted 266 to 16 in support of the controversial motion..."
So, how does something that passes by a margin of over 16 to 1, with all four parties voting for it, qualify as "controversial"?

I hope you're right. The separate nations in the US have definite rights and powers that supersede the state laws.

Yes, but we have allowed the RAT's to bring us down to Euro level and we have lost our freedom. We are in one mell of a hess!

Words are just that, words. When the money stops flowing from Ontario and Alberta to Quebec, then I know the Quebec has broken away for real. Before that, its just words to make people feel all fuzzy inside.
