Pelosi rejects Hastings bid to head committee

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida, impeached as a federal judge in 1989 on corruption charges, dropped his bid under pressure on Tuesday to chair a congressional panel designed to help protect America's security, a party aide said.

Hastings took the action after being told by Rep. Nancy Pelosi, in line to head the U.S. House of Representatives when the new Congress convenes in January, that she would not give him the coveted job, the aide said.

As House speaker, Pelosi decides who in her party serves on the committee that helps oversee federal efforts to protect the United States.

Last week, Hastings made a public plea for the post, arguing that despite being removed by Congress as a federal judge, he did nothing wrong and was cleared by a court of the corruption charges

So long as they put another dusky hued person in the post, the liberal bean counters will be happy.

First Murtha. Then Hastings. These are smart moves by Pelosi. I think the RATS will be scarring the straights anytime soon. Moonbat liberalism will come only if the RATS control Congress and the White House.

So... Nancy will go to bat and fight for a white man like John Murtha, but she won't lift a finger to help a black man like Alcee Hastings.

I smell... RACISM!!!

Repeat after me, RACISM!

My guess is he failed to secure a clean security clearance. He seemed rather docile and non-confrontational on being rejected.

My further guess is that Harmon won't pass her security clearance either. Just a guess.

Harman already has full security clearance as the Democrat's Ranking Member on the panel. One of the reasons the Rats are angry at Harman is she wouldn't leak the intelligence secrets to the press.

Puce Pelosi lost on her old friend Murtha. She didn't want to take another public loss. So she did the right thing for once but I don't expect it to occur very often. That liberal leftists socialist demoncRAT has her own personal agenda yet to unfold.

Apologies to Cher/dionne warwick, et al

What's it all about, Alceeeeeeee?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it
Out, Alcee?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alcee,
Then I guess it's wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong,
Alcee,
What will you lend on an old golden
Rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven
Above, Alcee,
I know there's something much more,
Something even moonbats can
Believe in.
I believe in power, Alceeeeeeeeee
Without true power you can't exist, Alcee.
Until you find the graft you've missed
You're nothing, Alcee.
When you walk let your greed lead the
Way
And you'll find bribes any day, Alcee,

"So she did the right thing for once but I don't expect it to occur very often."

You give her too much credit. Pelosi had no choice but to tell Hastings to 'fugetabboutit'.

If she didn't the conservatives would have been all over her case and her promise of returning Congress to a 'corrupt free' environment again.

Dems don't do anything without looking at how it affects them first.

It is my understanding that a former KKK recruiter and a murderer will still head up committees.

And don't forget the strategic placement of Sen. Patty Myers from Washington as the #3 in the house dims. It was a blatant attempt to appeal to the stupid bloc of voters.

You might want to review this before giving Harmon a completely clear security clearance:

"House Intel Committee Chairman Suspends Staffer for Possible Leak Friday, October 20, 2006

"WASHINGTON — A Democratic staff member on the House Intelligence Committee has been suspended by the Republican chairman of that committee over concerns about the leak of a secret intelligence estimate, and political mudslinging has become a central part of the investigation into the security breach.

"The unidentified staff member is Larry Hanauer, FOX News learned Friday. Chairman Peter Hoekstra, R-Mich., suspended Hanauer earlier this week and won't allow him access to classified information until a review can be completed, said Jamal Ware, Hoekstra's spokesman.

"The suspension drew heated response from the committee's top Democrat, Jane Harman, who said she was "appalled" by the suspension and called for his immediate reinstatement.

The political spat was heightened further when Harman released portions of a document earlier this week related to the investigation into the criminal dealings of former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham.

And another committee Republican told FOX News in an interview that the investigation he requested that led to Hanauer's suspension was political payback.

If you mean Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) there are no Senators on the House leadership. She's not #3 in the Senate leadership either - that would be Chuckie Shumer as conference vice-chair. The conference secretary is the #5 or #6 Senate leadership position, depending on how one reckons.
