11/29/06 Texas Tech Graduate and F-16 Pilot Crashes In Iraq
We know the name of the Texas Tech graduate and F-16 Pilot that crashed in Iraq. 34-year-old Major Troy Gilbert was flying near Falluja when his plane went down about 4:30 in the morning, Texas time, on Monday. Military Officials say Major Gilbert was firing on targets at a low altitude. Major Gilbert was flying a jet based out of Cannon Air Force base in New Mexico, which is about 100 miles from Lubbock. DNA samples were taken from the scene and are being tested. Right now, Gilbert's duty status is listed as whereabouts unknown. Major Gilbert went to high school in San Angelo and graduated from Tech in 1993 with a B.S. in Economics. Many tell NewsChannel 11, Troy always wanted to be a pilot. Friends say he married his college sweetheart, Ginger, after they graduated from Tech. Troy then went to Air Force officer training school in Alabama and spent time training in Colorado Springs. We're told Ginger and Troy traveled the world together. The couple recently extended their family, having twin girls about 9 months ago. One of Ginger's close friends tells NewsChannel 11, Troy was only expected to be in Iraq for 3 months from September to December. A fund has been set up to benefit the children. Donations are being accepted at any branch of Lubbock National Bank.

I don't know; but I think I heard that his official status is now MIA versus KIA.

may they be comforted... Word is that he was from Electra, Texas. If I know folks like those from Electra, they are comforted already knowing that he was doing an honorable and brave service to his country.

Real nice folks in Electra. I rode through there during this years "Hotter N Hell" Hundred.... they kept giving us fruit, water and pickles saying "I hope ya'll come back" and " thanks for stopping".... real nice Texas folk.
It's a shame, cause almost everybody knows everybody in towns like that.
God's speed and prayers for the family.

Thanks so much for posting this. May God be with Maj. Troy L. Gilbert.
This reminds me too much of the Scott Speicher case.
Stay strong, Gilbert family . . . . .

Guns and Prayers UP!
Hopefully he is still alive and they are just holding him for a swap or ransom. God Bless him and his family and may he be returned safely.
