Frank's leaving on a jet plane, Alaskans don't want him back again

"As long goodbyes go, this one is more prickly than poignant. Today is Frank Murkowski's final full day as governor of Alaska, and unless he's safely aboard a jet (a commercial one, we hope) and headed to his granddaughter's birthday party on the East Coast, we hesitate to say farewell ... snip...

He is, for better or worse, a defiant man, at least in his political life. ..snip....

As we demonstrated on the day of the primary election, Alaskans are ready for Murkowski to go. As Murkowski has demonstrated in various ways over the last several weeks, he's leaving on his own terms. Maybe that's enough to make this a fond farewell for everyone."

"His defeat in a three-candidate Republican primary was shocking in theory -- a sitting governor who came to the job after 22 years in the U.S. Senate crushed by his own party."

This article seems to explain Murkowski's defeat as well as anything I've read.

From the article
"With his defiance came arrogance, and that's a sin Alaskans are reluctant to forgive."

Should read

With his huge ego and inflated sense of importance came arrogance.....

His showing in the polls might have set a new record for the lowest % of votes (19% or just over 19,000 votes), from his own party.

I guess you can say, te poeple have spoken and they said
"Later for ya Frank"

We have many engineers already that love to hunt and fish..
While fooling around amonst Mountains that make the Rockeys look like the Smokies..
14 of the largest Mountains (and ranges of mountains) in the U.S. are in Alaska..

I caught a sea run Rainbow trout 8 lbs with red meat like a salmon.. in 3-5 inches of water in a stream.. But I like ocean fishing the best..

I can't disagree with that, and this story is also a lesson about what 22 years in the US Senate can do to someone.

A good article. Arrogance was the man's downfall. Doubt he will be missed much.

Live and learn conservative America;

We got rid of our RINOs in the primary elections

We still have a Republican Governor.

2 Republican Senators.

and a Republican Representative.

Not to mention a majority in the State legislature.

Murkowski is his own man. Since he wouldn't play the political game, but actually did his job with the full power of the office, he could not be tolerated. The old guard is back in power.

"The old guard is back in power."

Should probably read:
"The old guard with a fresh face is back in power.

The photo is from another ADN article titled 'Fresh face' launched Palin published before the election and is a sort of bio/info piece.
We learn her high school basketball nickname was 'Sarah Baracuda' and that her folks considered her stubborn and hard-working from age 2.

Good read.

I wonder how they are fixed for engineers in Alaska.

Are you looking for a job? What is your area of expertise?
