Egypt says arrested foreigners had terror links
CAIRO (AFP) - Egypt has said a group of foreigners arrested recently included French, US, Belgian, Syrian and Tunisian nationals who have links to terror groups and were recruiting Islamists for "jihad" in Iraq.
The Egyptian interior ministry said in a statement Monday it had dismantled an underground extremist organisation with links to foreign terror organisations.
French diplomatic sources had confirmed the arrest nearly two weeks ago of French Islamists in Cairo and Alexandria. Nine of them are expected to be flown back to France this week.
From FOX....."CAIRO, Egypt Egyptian police have arrested an American, 11 Europeans and several others from Arab countries for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks in Middle Eastern countries including Iraq, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

Along with the American, police arrested two Belgians, nine French and several others from Egypt and other Arab countries including Tunisia and Syria, the statement said."
No doubt named Mohammad.
And our hands are clean. This isn't somebody we sent to Egypt for interrogation, he screwed up in their jurisdiction.
Oh well, martyrdom isn't really martyrdom if it comes too easy...
Foreigners arrested for plotting attacks
By NADIA ABOU EL-MAGD, Associated Press Writer
CAIRO, Egypt - Police have arrested an American, 11 Europeans and several others from Arab countries for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks in Middle Eastern countries including Iraq, the Interior Ministry said Monday.
The group was part of an Islamic militant terror cell that had adopted extremist ideas and were living in Egypt under the guise of studying Arabic and Islamic studies, the ministry said in a statement.
Along with the American, police arrested two Belgians, nine French and several others from Egypt and other Arab countries including Tunisia and Syria, the statement said.
The ministry did provide names or say how many Egyptians and Arabs were arrested.
"Investigations have confirmed that those elements are related to some terrorist organizations abroad," the ministry said. "They were seeking to recruit others, teach them destructive beliefs, urging them for jihad, traveling to Iraq to carry out operations via other countries in the region."
They were arrested about a week ago, police officials said, speaking on condition on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. It was not immediately clear if all the arrests took place in Cairo or elsewhere in Egypt.
All of the arrested were in jail pending further investigation

I can believe that. Now that the elections are over, the violence has virtually come to a complete stand still. No more 24/7 pictures of blood, guts, and gore are coming from the drive by liberal media. Go figure.
Hmmmmm. This "guy" was used for at least 1/2 a dozen war stories, too. AP says they still "believe" he's real (like the Bush military records were "real")
Egypt holds French, U.S. suspects in secret group
04/12/2006
CAIRO, (Reuters) - Egyptian police have arrested nine French people, an American and two Belgians on suspicion of forming a secret Islamist organisation linked to "terrorist" groups abroad, the government said on Monday.
A number of Tunisians and Syrians were also arrested, the Interior Ministry said. "These people had links with certain terrorist organisations abroad. Investigations showed that they were trying to recruit others and indoctrinate them in their destructive beliefs and incite them to jihad and to travel to Iraq to carry out operations," a ministry statement said.
"The members of the secret organisation have adopted takfiri and jihadi ideas ... It includes Arabs and foreigners resident in the country under cover of studying the Arabic language and Islamic religious learning," it added.
Takfiri groups believe that Muslims who do not share their views are infidels. Jihad is usually translated as holy war.
