It probably is a very good sign. I think he left the pants as a marker to his position. He would have to have control of his situation and warmth to make a decision like that.
He probably found a cave or some form of shelter and is able to manage his warmth needs. He has two lighters with him.
He may have also found something warm to wear or he could have had undergarmets that were warm (pink fluffy ones).
We all need to stay positive. This is going to have a good ending I hope.
