Please help ping surfer's new post. This story has to get out!
Amazing! Thanks for posting that. How sad that it took so long for the pieces of the puzzle to come together to point to the are they were in.
Yes - thank you!
An article at kgw.com says the gate on the BLM road the Kims went down was NOT locked. Supervisor asked underlings to lock it, but they didn't lock it because they weren't sure if anyone had traveled down the road recently and they didn't want to lock anyone in. That's one tragic decision!
Yes especially since 3 weeks had past since they made that decision and still didn't go back to lock it!!!
Thanks for the ping - I saw the story and it was also on the news this morning.
I remember the lodge owner mentioning something to that effect, that someone had told him they had been afraid to lock it because there might be someone still up there and that they wouldn't be able to get back out.
Guess that means a lawsuit of some kind, but I'd hate to have to defend the family driving that unknown road in that weather at that time of night with a tiny baby in the underequipped car.
I hadn't thought of that, how they could have gone back later but didn't. Wow.
I'd hate to be the person who decided not to lock the gate! If the Kims hadn't turned down that road, but stayed on Bear Camp Road instead, they would have been found sooner.
I hope it doesn't mean lawsuit...but what should happen is some serious changes for follow up on that stuff...including the gate should have been closed Nov 1...period.
The person who made that bad decision should be fired.
In addition the real problem I see with this whole thing (if the media reports are correct) is that Sara Rubrecht had information on Friday that their was evidence a car was up the BLM road and that all of the roads need to be fully cleared. It seems she either ignored or dismissed the information out of hand. Also someone had marked that area had been cleared so they weren't even going to search there at all.
If this is true then it is a strong possibility they would have been found on Saturday...
Sara Rubrecht isn't talking...
Thanks for that update...
Another good article explaining the BLM gate fiasco. At least this article the BLM official is sincere and seems to explain the situation without reservation.

Thanks, surfer!
There is a reporter that is trying to get to the bottom of a lot of things related to this:
Here is an excerpt from an email from him. If anyone wants his direct contact info just freepmail me and I will give you his contact info.

I am trying to answer all those questions, and
many more, we have dug up.
Predictably, no one wants to talk.
If you have any insights or information not gleaned from news accounts, that is
new stuff, Id love to hear.
Thanks,
Peter Sleeth, Reporter

Yes we will see...there are a couple of key questions that need to be answered and the people that need to answer are not speaking.
BTW...I am not speaking about the SAR members on the ground...I think they did a great job.
I just hope the results are not exploited for lawsuits but they probably will - the American way!
Here is the story from Peter Sleeth on Sunday. Quite an interesting read, and lots of fumbles.
