1. He was hiking alone in a remote area (a completely different but just as serious a mistake).
2. If he'd stayed with his car, he wouldn't have been down there hiking alone in the canyon.
3. Shifting or climbing over large loose rocks while hiking alone is yet another serious mistake.
Lord knows he paid dearly for it.

Daughter hikes on the fourteeners in Colorado. Every now and then they come across a lone hiker and always insist the hiker join their group.
It is very easy to get lost and I just dont' understand hiking alone under any circumstances.
