A Norwegian businessman is looking to earn money on the fat of the land, and create fuel in the USA.

Lauri Venøy wants to use the product created from liposuction to develop bio-diesel.

Bio-diesel can be produced from plant oils and/or animal fat, and the Norwegian sees the scheme as a renewable energy source, newspaper Dagens Nærinsgliv reports.

More than sixty percent of Americans are overweight and the Norwegian's firm in Miami, Florida is in the process of signing an agreement with US hospital giant Jackson Memorial. This deal would give Venøy & Co. around 11,500 liters of human fat a week from liposuction operations, which is enough to produce about 10,000 liters of bio-diesel.

"Maybe we should urge people to eat more so we can create more raw material for fuel," Venøy said.

In Norway bio-diesel is primarily produced from fish oils and used fryer fat.

Regardless of who the liposuctioned fat is from, don't think there is enough to make a steady source of "alternative" fuel. I like Willie Nelson's idea of using used cooking oil. There is plenty of that.

The amount of fat available from liposuction is probably very low, even for a country where soybeans and definitely the oily plant that Indians are researching are inviable. They could still use algae, they have a long coastline and the Gulf Stream should keep the water relatively warm.

Just take a look around you at the mall while you're Christmas shopping this weekend. I foresee a time when there will be places that advertise "FREE LIPOSUCTION" just to get the fat for biodiesel.............no shortage of "customers" in America!..........

So,
10,000 liters per week = 2641 Gal/week *$2.5/gal = $6600 per week.

Not bad for one city/hospital system.

Heck, they may be getting the fat for free so the hospital doesn't have to go through the toxic disposal system since it would have some blood in it.
