Depends on the distance. A bolt action rifle is far more accurate than an AK. The AK uses pistol ammo (7.63x39mm) that has obvious disadvantages when it comes to shooting over distance.
I would take an SKS over an AK.
SKS and AK use the same 7.62x39 round. Why would you take an SKS?
An AK chambered for 7.62X39 has the aproximate ballistics as grandad's Winchester 30-30.
Yeah, I have a Chinese-made SKS (Vintage 1965), and it shoots really sweet at a hundred yards. Anything over that though and you might as well be shooting blindfolded.
The 7.62x39 is not a pistol round unless you have a Thompson Contender or similar target/hunting pistol,It is a mid velocity rifle cartridge,2350 fps to 2500 fps depending on barrel length and ammunition manufacturer.I have three rifles in that callibre,Saiga hunter,Norinco SKS paratrooper (short barrel) and a 1952 Russian SKS standard barrel.I have chronographed many different brands of ammo and that is where I get my velocities.I have shot the AK and have found it to be somewhat less accurate whith every brand of ammo I have tried (2-2.5 moa) while my Saiga can do 1 moa or less with my hand loads or quality ammo. The AK is not built as well as the Europeam SKS however I would not turn one down if the price was right.
Pistol ammo?
7.63X39mm round is pistol ammo?
Who knew?
7.62x39 isn't pistol ammo (unless you use it in a pistol chambered for it). You must be thinking of the 7.62x25 Tokarev
