I've seen the movie. I read the graphic novel first. The Wachowski's should feel deeply ashamed of what they did to Moore's work.

I couldn't agree moore.

I remember reading "V" when it first came out---and I will always consider it the best "Punk" comic book I've ever read (with a nod to Transmetropolitan, naturally).

The film was gutless and safe compared to Moore's original---which is why he disavowed it so strenuously.

When the Fingermen were assaulting Evie, V kills them. He doesn't just beat 'em up. She also wasn't going to some illicit rendezvous with a co-worker, she was going out to prostitute herself because socialist economic policies had pretty much destroyed the London economy.

And on, and on, and on....

Moore's book wasn't just a screed against "Right wing" government. It was a screed against government in general. That only individuals can decide to NOT be the victim, the serf, or the slave any more. That once you decide to be free, at any cost, then the only thing they can take from you is your life. And that sometimes, paying that cost is worth it.

The founding Fathers understood this. We no longer do. Not as a society. Certainly not in the Halls of government.
