Romney Set for Presidential Announcement

BOSTON - Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is making plans for his campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination in two phases early next month, a top adviser told The Associated Press on Friday.

The Massachusetts chief executive is expected to file paperwork as early as Jan. 2 with the Federal Election Commission, establishing a presidential campaign committee and permitting himself to begin raising money for his race on the first business day of the new year. Romney will leave office on Jan. 4.

As soon as the week of Jan. 8, Romney will hold a ceremony to officially declare his candidacy, said the adviser, a top aide who spoke on condition of anonymity in advance of the official filing.

The timing is somewhat dependent on when Sen. John McCain of Arizona makes an expected announcement about his own campaign for the GOP nomination, the Romney aide said. McCain has formed a presidential exploratory committee but held off declaring his candidacy.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has also formed an exploratory committee.

Anybody seen a Conservative yet? It will make me sick, if I don't get a true Conservative to vote for. I guess I better prepare myself to be ill.

Go to Hell, Romney. You too, McCain and Gulianni. Does the press now run this country? Some say yes. Only we can prove otherwise.

Unfortunately, I wholeheartedly agree.

A true conservative has not shown his (her?) face yet. I hope someone good comes along soon.

Isn't Duncan Hunter running for president? I think he has better credentials, but no one knows who he is.

I can't understand so-called conservatives who only bitch instead of getting out there and promoting their candidates.

If you're not willing to say who it is, give money to the campaign, do some grass roots activism, then I don't want to hear you. Professional crybabies.

To be bitching in 2006 that we don't have someone good enough for 2008 is asinine.

Regardless of whether or not Mitt Romney is nominated by the Republicans for 2008, I will welcome his entrance into the campaign debate. He has some unique, and intriguing qualifications arising from highly successful executive management positions in major business and state government. I'd like to hear his ideas.

It will be good to judge the level of his commitment to the conservative movement, from his words and demeanor, as he stands on the issues today. Time and the glare of media spotlights in the arena of national politics will quickly show us if he is the real deal. Let's hear him out.

Yeah.
Duncan Hunter. Maybe NOT the best chance to win, but a real conservative without the extraneous bullshit.

No, and Mitt Romney is waaaay off the scale as a RINO liberal.

He hasn't a gnat's a$$ of a chance to be positioned for a run for POTUS as a Republican.

Duncan Hunter.

And spend the next 2 years listening to the word "WHO"?

Although most at FR know who he is, the row to hoe for him is a long one.

I've been following Hunter. I don't think that he has formally announced. He is hands down a better candidate than Romney, Guiliani or McCain. The trouble is one of those has announced the others haven't. But the moderate gerbils on here are lining up to support them. I just wonder how far these republicans will compromise to win a campaign? Apparently conservative values mean nothing to them. All they whine about is some fantasy about the "religious right running their lives". I'd like to see an example of that.

Gingrich is my favorite, but he's viciously attacked here by many for whatever happened in his prior marriage.

Glad that didn't happen to Reagan.

Hey Dog,

I gave a lot of money the Republican Party and George W Bush. But it going to dry up because my party is not acting like a true Conservative. If my Party wants money, let them get it from those who want open borders. Conservative vote Republican because we want Republicans to act like Conservatives. Every time they act like a liberal, their numbers fall. Imagine that. Maybe they would get the point. I will not tolerate a RINO. They do not belong on Elephant Turf.

But believe me, I want a Conservative. I will send money to a Conservative. I don't want a stinkin' RINO or liberal demorat.

Think of it this way: he'll probably win the NH Primary, which over the past few elections is a kiss of death for actually getting him the nomination.

Anyone have some actual research on that??

I liked everything but would add some miles to this (North and South):

3. Enforceable U.S. borders, including a 700-mile double fence across the smugglers routes in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas

I'll hear them all out, but I like to judge via actions and not words.

It's far more effective to support the candidate and causes that you care about than to withhold support from the party in general until they "wise up."

The place to get rid of RINOs is in the primaries, along with some actual effort on our part prior to them.

Sulking and hoping the GOP loses the general election in order to teach them a lesson is a losing strategy.

That's all I'm sayin'.
