There are moments that make you question your fundamental assumptions about the world. One of them took place a few days ago, when news emerged that Monica Lewinsky had just graduated from the London School of Economics.
She did not!!
Lewinsky, 33, is known more for her audacious coquetry than for her intellectual heft, and the notion of her earning a master of science degree in social psychology at the prestigious London university is jarring, akin to finding a rip in the time-space continuum, or discovering that Kim Jong Il is a natural blond.
Even more staggering, the same bubbly gal who once described the act of flashing her thong at the president as a "small, subtle, flirtatious gesture" has now written a lofty-sounding thesis. Its title, according to Reuters: "In Search of the Impartial Juror: An Exploration of the Third Person Effect and Pre-Trial Publicity."
Monica! We hardly knew ye!
A revelation on this order suggests Lewinsky belongs to a fascinating subspecies, dumb-but-smart. Dumb-but-smart folks defy our low expectations. They appear dull or ditzy but possess unpredictable pockets of intelligence.
For example, dumb-but-smart: Ashton Kutcher! Majored in biochemical engineering in college. (Huh?) And: Jessica Simpson, who famously didn't know the difference between tuna and chicken, and posited that buffalo wings are made from buffalo. Simpson's mother once told Vanity Fair that her daughter has "this, like, 160 IQ And, you know, that's, like, a genius level."
Like, no way.
We all know a dumb-but-smart person -- the airheaded clotheshorse who holds an Ivy league PhD; the mulleted townie who grows up to be a Wall Street tycoon. These people are smart in spite of themselves.

Why is it surprising that someone who does stupid things is still capable of doing not so stupid things? The two dimensional world of the media abhors reason and certainly academic success does not require that one be correct in any of their analysis only that they can write volumes about that which they postulate.
I suppose talk radio isn't much better at times with hosts that set up straw men through which they lead the charge and demolish as if they were breaking the gates of a fortified castle when all they are doing is shuffling the leftover straw obtained from an abandoned chicken coop. That said I commend Ms. Lewinsky for doing something respectable with herself.

I'd say the MSM should lay off Monica. The vast majority of MSM types have degrees and are as dumb as a rock.

In what way? "Social Science" degrees are pretty much content-free. They prove nothing but that you sat in class, and turned in a paper on time -- regurgitating the prof's wacky theories, usually.
Monica could easily go on to PhD in the field using nothing but her only demonstrated skill, fellation of the powerful.
The fact remains, she's an insecure fat slut, and the envy of all liberal columnists for having done literally what they only did figuratively for the eight-year nightmare that was the Clinton regime.

And on the other hand, we all know geniuses who can't tie their shoes. The third, and worst, category is the idiot who thinks he's a genius, and never tires of telling you about it. The worst example of this type is a guy I knew who claimed he had more education than an MD, but didn't have a college diploma. Needless to say this guy was a flaming liberal Nader voter with a do-nothing government job. finally, his wife, who was a librarian, and just as liberal and just as stupid as he was, threw him out(great story in itself), and he married his cousin.
Fine picture of the Kerry-jawed heffalump, prof. She looks like she's dressed for the Adult Video Awards, where she's hoping to be runner-up in the "BBW" category.

A more learned way to put this is that these educated people lack wisdom.
Knowledge without wisdom is a double folly.
