"In a statement, the bar said it opened a case against Nifong in March 30, a little more than two weeks after the party where a 28-year-old student at North Carolina Central University hired to perform as a stripper said she was raped."

This angers me, that they kept this under wraps and allowed Nifong to win the election.

The timing also suggests that they weren't going to go ahead with filing the complaint unless another shoe dropped. On the other hand, I do know that state bars do move very, very slowly. Here in CA they take about 3-4 years to process and decide, but a good portion of that time is taken up by the state supreme court review, not so much the bar review. Further, the violations under review at this time are very cut-and-dried. All they needed was the video and a couple months to review them, depending on workload.
