American "peace mom" Cindy Sheehan called for the closure of the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as she and other activists arrived here Saturday to draw attention to the nearly 400 terror suspects held at the remote site.

Sheehan is among 12 human rights and anti-war activists who will travel across this Caribbean island next week, arriving at the main gate of the Guantanamo base in eastern Cuba on Thursday - five years after the first prisoners were flown in.

"Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not afraid of anything," Sheehan said when asked about the possibility of U.S. sanctions for traveling to communist-run Cuba, which remains under an American trade embargo.

"What is more important is the inhumanity that my government is perpetrating at Guantanamo," she told reporters.

Benjamin said group members believed they were exempt from U.S. travel restrictions on Cuba because they were traveling as professional human rights activists who will attend a daylong international conference in the Cuban city of Guantanamo on Wednesday, the eve of their protest.

Even if they are exempt, which I doubt, it's likely they hope for some sort of legal action upon their return. They'll do anything to stay in the news.

They should let Cindy pick out 1 prisoner, handcuff him to her, and let her provide for his care and feeding for the week.

She might change her mind.

****"Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not afraid of anything," Sheehan said ****

Everyone is afraid of something. In Cindy's case I believe she fears that one day she will go out on one of her farcical binges and no media will report it.

She is a pathetic creature,a cell there in Gitmo for her would be nice.

They should let her interview the terrorists in a group session.
Our guards would be just outside the cell, to make sure she was safe....(ya' sure)

American activist Cindy Sheehan makes the victory signal as she walks up stairs along with, from right to left, Cuban Baptist minister Raul Suarez, Medea Benjamin, Tiffany Burns, Adele Welty and Ann Wright after they arrived at the Jose Marti airport in Havana, Saturday, Jan.

About 2 minutes in Iraq ought to cure that.

Cindy may be pathetic, but she and her people protested the war at the House press conference the day of the swearing-in, disrupting it. One day later, Reid and Pelosi snap to and send a letter to the White House on same. Cindy looks a bit like a puppetmistress -- she pulls the strings, and the Dems react.

Going to Cuba is a bad move for Cindy. While people may be against the war--for whatever reason--going to Cuba equates to being a Communist. That is a red-flag (no pun intended, well maybe) to most Americans. They may hate the war, but we hate commie-lovers more.

And, damn, Castro isnt even around to meet with her.

Who's funding her? Just once I'd like to see this included in the headline (not by the poster, but by the actual author)!

Just cancel her passport now. Let he work the streets of Tujuana to earn a living. There may be some man desperate enough to pay her for favors.

That's religious discrimination. We can't harass Gitmo islamists by handcuffing them to a pig.

Reid and Pelosi are much the same as Sheehan.

They love the limelight, they hate the country.

Sooner or later her son's life insurance benefit (probably $250K at that time) will run out. I assume that's how she supports herself although I suppose a lot of left wing organizations wouldn't mind funding her.

The Code Pink Commies, led by Jihad Cindy, are more enraged at our government's imprisonment of terrorists than they are at Commie Thug Fidel Castro's imprisonment of 11 million Cubans in a Communist Gulag since 1959.
