Although I completely agree with you about the idiot who leaked this, it may have been to mitigate public outcry by the MSM when it happens. Not that they won't scream bloody murder anyway.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. We were seeing identical reports last winter predicting a strike by Israel within months. In fact, this report looks like it's a recycled version of the same thing with the dates changed.

The Times Online reported that ISRAEL has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons.

Secret? How does some reporter for Time obtain "secret" information of this type? Or, is it possible that this reporter just assumes Israel has drawn up plans for such an attack and is just writing his speculation on it? In any event, he should be brought up on charges of espionage.

I agree the reporter is just speculating that Israel has drawn up plans. But as the old saying goes "Tell a lie long enough and loud enough and it becomes truth."

Its very possible that the leak originated with the Israelis
as a deliberate effort to impress upon Iran how close they
are to an Israeli administered bum kicking. Not all Iranians
are signed up for this...

Problem is the leaders in Iran are wanting a confrontation with Israel, especially if Israel is the aggressor. In their warped view a conflict with Israel will ignite the holy war they want.

The Sunday Times journalist in question Uzi Mahnaimi, is a controversial figure, who co-authored a book with Bassam Abu Sharif, former senior adviser to Yasser Arafat and PLO press officer.

So what does Baghdad Bob think?

Frankly I hope Isreal does whatever it needs to do and makes no apology about it. America is hamstrung with liberal hand-wringers. Pres. Bush will have to show a great deal more grit than he has to date to strike Iran.

Poppycock--the dream of an emasculated West and the fantasy of Israel's enemies. Check out pajamasmedia--the author is an anti-Israeli who regularly prints this kind of nonsense.

Israeli Military Leaks Iran Plans to the London Times -- UPDATE: The Reporter Who Cried Wolf?

Pajamas Media challenged the report from the Sunday (London) Times for January 7, 2007: “Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility [Natanz] using low-yield nuclear “bunker-busters”, according to several Israeli military sources.

The attack would be the first with nuclear weapons since 1945, when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Israeli weapons would each have a force equivalent to one-fifteenth of the Hiroshima bomb.”

Pajamas Media wants to know why Israeli military sources would leak this information now. The Times asked that question as well: “Military analysts said the disclosure of the plans could be intended to put pressure on Tehran to halt enrichment, cajole America into action or soften up world opinion in advance of an Israeli attack.”

Meanwhile, US and allied presence is already increasing in the Persian Gulf.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry denies the report: the Prime Minister’s office has no comment.

Being that the source of the story is Bassam Abu Sharif, former PLO press officer and senior adviser to Yasser Arafat, the only thing this story says Fiction Fiction Fiction.
