HE'S TAKING THE 'A' TRAIN TO JAIL (30 YRS. FOR SUBWAY BOMB PLOTTER)

A federal judge slapped a would-be terrorist, who plotted to blow up the Herald Square subway station, with 30 years behind bars yesterday - heeding calls from prosecutors who said the young radical was "perfectly willing to have people die."

Shahawar Matin Siraj, 24, was convicted in May of conspiring to place an explosive device inside a garbage can or under a bench in the crowded West 34th Street subway station, which sits just beneath Macy's flagship department store. He wanted to bomb the station in retaliation for war abuses against Iraqis.

"The defendant's role was central . . . He even planned how the conspirators should dress and what exits they should use," Brooklyn federal Judge Nina Gershon said before sentencing Siraj.

Siraj was arrested on Aug. 27, 2004, on the eve of the Republican National Convention, after a wired NYPD informant, Osama El Dawoody, alerted police to the plot against one of the city's busiest subway stations.

El Dawoody had befriended the Pakistani immigrant over a period of two years and promised Siraj he could get explosives from a terrorist organization known as "The Brotherhood."

During Siraj's four-week trial, El Dawoody maintained that Siraj hatched the plot on his own and was considering other acts of terrorism, including the bombing of police precincts on Staten Island, blowing up the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and even assassinating Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates.

Siraj was caught on tape ranting

What irony, the NYPD being alerted to a planned terror attack, by an informer named Osama! Some Muzzies apparently DO "get it"..........

Nina Gershon (born 1940 in Chicago, Illinois) is a federal district judge in the Eastern District of New York. She was appointed by President Clinton in 1996 at the recommendation of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. [1] Gershon is known for her intelligence, legal ability, and "quiet and businesslike" approach to judging. [2]

Prior to her appointment as a district judge, Judge Gershon served for twenty years as a United States Magistrate Judge in the Southern District of New York. Before that, she was Chief of the Consumer Protection Division for the New York City Law Department (1975-76); Chief of Federal Appeals for the Law Department (1972-75); Assistant Corporation Counsel for the Law Department (1968-69 and 1970-72); and a Staff Attorney for the Supreme Court of New York and the Mental Health Information Service (1966-68). [3]

Even clinton could make a mistake once in a while. I suspect Pat Moynihan conned him into making this out-of-character appointment.

I'll bet he lived next door to someone who thought he was a good muslim that wouldn't hurt a flea. He wasn't like the others, you just had to get to know him and understand how he feels, and have him explain what his religion is really about...

I am a little disappointed in the NY Post and the criminal justice system for giving up the name Osama El Dawoody. Now this patriotic American is probably have to go into the Witness Protection Program, and who knows who else he could have helped catch, had we left them out there?

Having recently started reading a number of passages from the "koran" and having seen how many references there are to "death" and "doom" as well as the passages referring to Jews and Christians as being sub-human,I'm fast coming to believe that the more closely you follow I Slam, the more likely you are to cheer when you see a film of the WTC towers falling.

I have no doubt that there are "muslims" who are basically decent and civilized people but I now firmly believe that such people aren't really following mohammed.

Guy was a Pakistani immigrant. Was he a "diversity" immigrant, or had family members immigrated here and brought him along? I would like to know how these people get into our country. We could go along way toward creating actual "Homeland Security" by not allowing a single additional Mulsim to immigrant here, and sending the ones who are here back home.

There appears to be one in this thread. His name is Osama El Dawoody.

Have him go through airborne training: Stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door; He doesn't get to hook up though - yes today is his first and last as well as only flying lesson.

His lawyers said he was impressionable and manipulated. I don't care if he's delusional and thinks he's the second coming of Moe-hammad himself, people could have been killed, because the bottom line is that he intended to go through with the plot.

30 years isn't long enough.
