(Bye to Socialism) Blizzards, reindeer, darkness: new Klondike is hottest place in Europe
The Guardian ^ | 01/07/2007 | Alex Duval Smith

The article, from one of the world's leading newspapers, touches on what a blessing saying "hasta la vista" to socialism really can be - not to mention future prospects!

Ask the people who live in the hottest city of Europe - and they don't speak "cockney" or french with a Paris accent.

The fall of Communism in Russia and China in combination with the orientation towards pro-capitalism of Scandinavia has already lead to a explosion of trade between the world's 14th biggest economy, Russia, the world's 4th biggest economy, China and the 8th biggest one, the Scandinavian countries (Source: IMF nominal GDP figures).

Global warming will heat things up even more as ALL sea north of Russia will become ice free year round! Economic exchange by sea between Asia and Europe without passing the Cape of Good Hope as well as he Suez Canal will create a revolution.

The "hottest city of Europe" is named Haparanda-Tornio. Never heard of it? Maybe because it's a small, remote municipality above the Arctic Circle.

Why is it suddently so hot?

The future prospects of Swedish/Finnish Haparanda-Tornio (it's actually built across the border itself) sure makes it hot.

Boasting the first IKEA warehouse of the Arctic world has already ignited business (this 2006 $3.5 billion profit company is probably planning on opening up on the moon by now).

The adjacent, original, Jukkasjärvi ice hotel (ENTIRELY built out of snow and ice, among other things housing the ABSOLUT ICEBAR, sure is a h*ll of a hotel.

Last but not least, inhabitants being able to watch the natural phenomena of Northern Light, Aurora Borealis, taking place in the sky above them isn't too common. No million $ fireworks can compete with that.

Haparanda-Tornio "hottest" city in all of Europe?

Could well be.

Superb read! How did it get by the censors of the Guardian? Once global warming really heats up, it could make the demand for oil plummet and give the west an extra growing season. Meanwhile, we need to stop letting Jihadis move to our countries and let them try to convert their oil into food. If history is any guide, their desert kindgoms might actually become productive with global warming.

As recently as 2200 years ago, what is now the northern edges of the Sahara were the southern edges of the Carthaginian allied states of Numidia and Mauretania, lush, fertile tropical countries since made arid by global cooling.

The big wave of global cooling since begain about 1100 a.d., forcing the abandonment of Norse colonies along the coast of Greenland and even Newfoundland.

Almost forgot about Lapin Kulta, the arctic beer from Finland!!

If you like beer you'll love it. If you don't like beer, it'll turn you into a beer lover.

Carlsberg is, definitely, the second best beer in Scandinavia.

Cheers to Finland from Sweden - and may the Danes forgive me..

Superb reply!

Many "scientific" theories about environmental hazards like CRC depletion of the ozone layer and global warming being a "man made" phenomena lack the support of convincing evidence and logical conclusion.

I once pointed out that there's no hard evidence of CRC depletion of the ozone layer to a certain professor who taught in "Humanekologi" (not sure what the english word for it would be, but naturally it deals with man being unworthy of making technological progress) at the University of Gothenburg (I live in that city myself).
He admitted this instantly, but added "we can't afford to take the risk".

I've also spoked about the "Greenhouse Effect" with a widely and highly regarded Professor of the above mentioned University who is an expert of Philosophy and Theory of Science as well as all kind of Science Studies (meaning he knows a lot about scientific reasoning, research and reasoning). By the way, this man had also participated on several polar expeditions. He admitted, without a word of protest, that the scientific evidence for "man made" global warming more or less boils down to the confusing end product of a never ending process of creative computer simulations being applied to other creative computer simulations.
