"Look, I'm not sure where your question comes from"

I'm not looking for a condescending post. I understand supply and demand. You made a conclusion that one result ALWAYS happens from a shortage of women. This is a complicated, once in a lifetime demographic phenomenon and I thought you might have some evidence for your claim.

Whether women or anything else, a relative shortage creates a relative increase in value. This ALWAYS happens.

It is like gravity - a Law.

I never said that all women turn to prostitution; that's clearly not true. What I did say is this, and this is true and has been seen in many instances and has been documented. I am not about to give research time to this, though.

Many women will notice that they can improve their economic position relative to that enjoyed by a wife, dependent on the income of one man, by entering into relationships with more than one man. This can take forms other than prostitution, for example, polyandry.

But, prostitution is the time honored route. Will all women fall into prostitution? Of course not. There are many reasons why any specific woman would choose not to enter prostitution; they are too many to elaborate. But, more women will do so than would be the case if husbands were readily available for all. This is because the relative value of becoming a prostitute is diminished when potential husbands can readily find wives.

Even then, some women will become prostitutes, because the facts of birth, demeanor, appearance, or level of intellect make them less desirable as wives, but do not diminish their value as short term partners to the same degree.

If the Chinese reduce the population of potential brides their value will be enhanced. Many men will of necessity be "priced out of the market". We all understand this: it is the entire basis of this thread. But many men will be able to devote some of their income to part-time female companionship. Many women will find that they can improve their positions by taking advantage of this phenomenon.

Many will also actually do so, as history has amply proven.

Think mining camp.
