Compared with the other Democrats who plan to run for president in 2008, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is the most battle-tested, has the biggest fund-raising network and can walk into the job with a unique set of skills and perspectives gleaned from eight years in the White House as first lady.
None of that guarantees Mrs. Clinton will steamroll her opponents, or manage and master the issues that have long vexed her, like the war in Iraq and universal health insurance. Far from it: she has told friends that she is more worried about winning the Democratic nomination than winning a general election against a Republican.
With this presidential campaign starting far earlier than any in history, Mrs. Clinton, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and their five Democratic rivals find themselves facing 400 more days before the nomination is sealed up. Each of those days could bring a surprise or flub or Senate vote or controversy that might change their political fortunes. The field is still growing, too: Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico is expected to jump in today. And whither John Kerry? Wesley Clark? Al Gore?

This is only news to the NYT.
Actually, I think there is a concerted effort underway in the MSM to paint Hillary as some kind of underdog. It's about the only way she can get any kind of sympathy to counter her negative ratings.
Time to gear up those paperless voting machines Hill. It's the only way you'll win. Oh, yes and don't forget to wake the dead.
She fears running against other Democrats more than Republicans? Does she think we are going to nominate Bob Dole again?
Special skills? Like hiding billing records for two years? Like expropiating confidential FBI files? Like freezing out law enforcement while Vince Forster's office is cleaned up? Like turning $2000 into $200,000 playing the commodities market? Those certainly are special skills, but not necessarily skills desired or required in a Commander-in-Chief!
She's got the mug for it!
To you Hllary lovers (and there are about 40 percent)
you are gettting the wool over your eyes !
One thing I know. Americans are not going to put a liberal Woman/African-American ticket in the WH in 2008. Not, gonna, happen!
I would love to see a Rudy-Hillary match at the national level. It would take someone with previous experience defeating organized crime to do it again!
The road to the WH is paved by illegal aliens.
If we don't get a real conservative as the Republican candidate..then you are looking at Hillary.
She will win the Dem race. Osbama will settle for VP rather than personal destruction.
A Rino will win Republican nomination and we will face worse and worser...slow or fast road to socialism and open borders and Third world status.
I wish that was the case, however think about what is going to happen when all those illegal aliens, that Bush is giving amnesty to, get their citizenship and the vote. They will be more than enough votes to secure a Democrat victory from now till doomsday! Which is a scarey thought!!!
you beat me to it!
After every federal election, there's usually at least a year to get over being sick of politics. One danger declaring this early is a horrendously long stretch of not wearing out one's welcome.
Additionally, if you've ever played hearts, when one player 'shoots the moon' and takes an early lead in the game, the other players target the leader instead of each other. The targetted player soon falls behind and the others keep pounding on him/her from force of habit until the game is over and the early leader is among the losers.
Hillary screwed up.
Pray for "W" and our troops!
