What a sad state of affairs. Maybe Ray Flynn could be persuaded to run as a Republican. Not that it would make much difference.

Flynn might get to 40%, but I'm sure there's a lot of elitist liberal RINOs who would get the vapors at the thought of nominating (let alone voting for) an Irish Catholic pro-lifer. Oh, the humanity ! Must keep the party pure for the retched and debauched liberal Pilgrim descendents. Unfortunately, he turns 70 in 2009, so a bit too long in the tooth to embark on a Senate career.
Some states simply are not worth throwing good money after bad at.
The people there have spoken loud and clear for decades and they deserve what they have.
The GOP needs to spend its money wisely, not flush it down the toilet of lost causes.
