Supporters rally for defendants in '71 San Francisco cop slaying

Lawyers and civil rights activists rallied support Sunday for eight former black militants arrested in the 1971 slaying of a police officer, saying the men were tortured during an earlier investigation of the murder.

At a news conference held before the premiere of a documentary detailing the decades-old abuse allegations, supporters described last week's arrests as part of a law enforcement vendetta against the Black Panthers and other black liberation groups that has lasted 40 years.

"The case began in torture. It's now moved into fabricated evidence," said Stuart Hanlon, a lawyer for one of the men accused of storming the lobby of a San Francisco police station nearly 36 years ago, and killing Sgt. John V. Young, 51, with a shotgun and injuring a civilian clerk.

Prosecutors describe the men as former members of the Black Liberation Army, a violent offshoot of the Black Panthers, and say Young's murder was part of the BLA's broader conspiracy of violence against law enforcement in the 1960s and 70s.

Recent analyses of old shotgun shells and a fingerprint on a cigarette lighter left at the crime scene provided new evidence that led to Tuesday's arrests, according to court papers filed by prosecutors.

"We believe that the evidence we have put together is more than enough to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that these men are responsible for this terrible crime," said Nathan Barankin, a spokesman for California Attorney General Jerry Brown.

The murderer loving crowd loves cop-killers. Death To The Pigs, man! Their chant hasn't changed since the 60s.

It's easy to understand why too many Americans don't understand we're at war with Islam. Too many Americans don't realize we're at war here in our own culture.

Those supporting these scum should be put on a list again and investigated right down to the number of sheet of TP they use daily. I have no doubt hundreds of other underground criminals would be turned up in the course of the investigations.

Every one of these "political prisoners" lionized by the left is guilty, without exception. The few who aren't, never get any attention from the lefty lawyers and protesters. That's an ironclad rule.

1) There is no statue of limitations on murder.
2) The only "fabrication" going on here are the charges of torture, which seem to have replaced the "police brutality" mantra of a few decades past.
3) There is no doubt that militant arms of the Black Panthers targeted police for "execution." Heck, Rap Brown was just sentenced to life without parole for murdering two cops in Atlanta. Huey Newton, Bobby Seale, Eldridge Cleaver, Geronimo Pratt ... they should all have danced on air a long time ago.

They just locked an old white man last week who was involved in a couple of killing in the south about this same time.

They have locked up other old White men who were ionvolved in civil rights killings years after the fact.

Thats good that they locked them up if they murdered these people.

I didnt see anyone protesting locking up these old white men.

Why should ex-members of the Black Panthers escape their crime becasue they are black.? If they are guilty they need to be tried and convicted, the same as the Civil right killers in the South.

These dirt bags are undoubtedly trying some way some how to get this to the 9th District Fed. Court of Communists. At that point they have at worst of a 50/50 of a new trial.

If somebody wants to check.... Hillary may have worked for the defendants in this case or related cases when she was a college intern.

"Soffiyah Elijah, deputy director of the Criminal Justice Institute at Harvard Law School, spoke at the premiere. She compared the alleged abuse of BLA members to the police beating of Los Angeles motorist Rodney King and the mistreatment of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib."

Really reaching, huh Sophie? HAAAVad must be so proud of your leadership! These primitive functioning misanthropes blasted their way into a symbol of local government and KILLED an on-duty police officer. How the hell can you (Sophie Elijah) equate this fact with alleged abuse of Abu Ghraib prisoners of war and Rodney (The multiple felon) King!

That wasn't this case. That was the case of the torture/rape/murders of Alex Rackley in New Haven, Connecticut. Hillary Clinton acted as an observer for the ACLU, as well as an organizer for several campus demonstrations on behalf of the "wronged" Black Panthers.

I believe you are referring to Hillary's leftist activism at Yale, in 1969 or thereabouts, supposedly in defense of the Black Panthers in the Rackley case.

I was thinking, rather, of her internship in the (communist) law office of Robert Treuhaft in California, in 1971 (possibly 1972). Treuhaft defended the Black Panthers. I have a dusty recollection that Hillary may have had a legal role in that George Jackson "Soledad Brothers" incident where a judge was kidnapped from his courtroom to free three prisoners. Just about all of them were killed, including Jackson and the judge.

Not totally sure of that, but it is no secret that Hillary interned in a west coast communist law firm.
