A firing event would have been to instruct them to check each others or to permit him to check. As it is I don't see anything wrong with this.

Probably the smallest boy, too--if you know what I mean.

Unbelievable that he got fired.

Maybe the coach was trying to get them all to do a self-testicular exam which is a good way to catch cancer in its early stages. Hey, they teach it in health class.

I have never understood why people put so much emphasis on winning. 'Cause we don't want to become France...

It is called competition. Games have winners and losers. If that wasn't the case there would be no scoreboards.

A high school basketball coach was fired after telling his players at halftime to reach into their pants to "check their manhood," administrators said. Are they mad because he chastized them, or because he reminded them that they have such a thing as manhood, undoing years of work by the school district? ;)

From the article:
Johnson told the Globe he estimates he had at least six concussions in his last three seasons but reported only one because he already had a reputation as an injury-prone player and he didn't want to make it worse.
Sounds to me like Ted was willing to risk his future health for the fat NFL paycheck. We have to live with the decisions we make.
Tough break - he was a damn good player.

This sounds like an old military tradition. Don't know how it started but it has been around a long time. When we were stationed at an overseas site in the early 80's one of our friends was the supervisor on the 11-7 shift. He was telling us that he always went through the work stations just before the relief shift got there and yelled, "All right, package check." Then he said he wasn't going to do it anymore because the last time he did it 3 women jumped up and grabbed their crotchs. He said after everybody finished laughing he realized he was becoming a dinasour and revised his pep talks. I thought it was really funny. Mainly because I knew the young women and that was their way of saying "Hey, we're part of the team too." And they didn't even have to threaten lawsuits or harassment complaints or any of that nonsense.

Go figure! I got fired from my 1st PE job. Principal walked into my 11th grade girls PE class and fired me with out explaining why. All that I remember is that shirts were beating skins 20-17.

I don't understand what the problem is here,... unless it was a girl's basketball team the coach was berating!

Many here who dislike screaming coahes should be overjoyed that Dungy and Smith, two coaches who've been criticized for not being fiery enough, are in the Super Bowl.
(I'm all for loud coaches, by the way, up to and until they cross that line...)

Someone ran crying to their mommy. I bet the coach gets hired up quick by a school that wants to win a few.
