A Necessary Apocolypse
American Thinker ^ | 2/2/07 | J.R. Dunn

Posted on 02/02/2007 10:02:36 PM PST by airborne

A man who ceases to believe in God does not believe in nothing; he believes in anything. - G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

The apocalyptic vision of global warming serves a deep need of the environmentalist credo, the dominant pseudo-religious tendency of our age in the prosperous West.

For good or ill, human beings are constructed to believe, and faith has its demands.. Along with the concrete elements that demand belief (that fire burns and that it's not wise to walk off cliffs, for example) there exists an apparent necessity for a belief in "the rock higher than I" - a belief in a superior entity that can inspire awe and gratitude, that can be turned to in hard times, that can act as witness to injustice and dispenser of mercy.

Rush Limbaugh read this on his progam and I was intrigued with the author's theory.

Environmentalism is the religion of the left, and like Islam, they want us all to convert.

Even if they have to force it down our throats.

It is exactly true.

The problem is that all this could be true, and Global Warming could still - as virtually all climate researchers believe is the case - in fact be occurring.

Even if it IS happening, the cause and effect is definitely not proven.

As soon as I heard him read it, it made things so clear.

When I got home, I found the article and printed it out.

Then I e-mailed it to some friends.

What's really scary about it is that the center of their pseudo-religion is the Apocolypse.

Sort of a "follow us or else the end of the world will come!"

Read the whole thing.

... as virtually all climate researchers believe is the case - in fact be occurring.

Not so. The media (as they do with most subjects) only tells you half the story.

What is the ``scientific method''?

The scientific method is the best way yet discovered for winnowing the truth from lies and delusion. The simple version looks something like this:

1. Observe some aspect of the universe.

2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed.

3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions.

4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations and modify the hypothesis in the light of your results.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation.

When consistency is obtained the hypothesis becomes a theory and provides a coherent set of propositions which explain a class of phenomena. A theory is then a framework within which observations are explained and predictions are made.

The environmentaists pushing the 'global warming' myth have never gotten past Step # 2!

wow. You know I never thought of it from that perspective (the Apocalypse point). It is all a religion from their perspective and it is very, very scary. Someone once said the most powerful manipulation is accusing someone else of doing what you are doing. Here we have it . . . over and over again from the libs. In spades. It is very disconcerting.

Isn't that just amazing! They are no longer scientist in my opinion when they reason in the way they have been for sometime now. To think many of these 'scientists' are professors teaching our children how to 'think'. HA! Isn't that just the farthest thing from the truth.

They are not teaching or creating great future scientists at all, but as you mention children that are able to do step 1 & 2 as you posted and that is IT. Crazy. Thanks for posting the Scientific Method. This is so important how much the scientific community has deviated from this foundation of inquiry and discovery.

"Even if they have to force it down our throats."

I think the forcing it down our throats part is the religion. The other stuff is just an excuse to do it.

Yep. First it was "evil chemicals" that would destroy the earth.

Then it was "overpopulation", starving us all to death.

Next was "nuclear winter" that would end all of humanity.

The "ozone layer depletion" was going to leave us all mutants.

After a short "global cooling" scenario, we got the latest craze, "global warming" as the most recent end of the world scenario.

And the one reoccurring theme in all of this?

It was the fault of us greedy conservative Capitalists who were living too well and exploiting the planet's resources too much.

And for our perceived 'sins' we would have to repent and pay a penance by giving up more and more of our money and our individual rights to our "savior" - The government!

" Even if it IS happening, the cause and effect is definitely not proven."

And even if the cause and effect were proven, it's still natural.

When a beaver builds a dam it's natural, and when man builds a dam it is also natural. When a bird builds a nest it's natural, and when man builds a house it's natural. When lightning burns hydrocarbons it's natural, and when man burns hydrocarbons it is also natural.

as virtually all climate researchers believe is the case

You are correct--provided that by "virtually" you mean all the climate researchers that are well supported by environmental groups. And if "believe" in this case means "assume for the purposes of getting funded."

However, they are not engaged in the scientific method so much as the free market. They say what they are paid to say. Even a layman can educate themselves to know that this thing is a sham.

True. Global Warming is occurring.

But the enviros and Gorebots have it backwards.

CO2 levels aren't causing global warming.

Global warming is changing CO2 levels.

The amount of CO2 has no effect on temperature whatsoever.
It does, however, give plants and trees something to breathe in. In exchange, they give off O2. Which we breathe.
Lower CO2 and

less plants, less trees, less oxygen. NOT GOOD.

Just go to a SAT WEATHER website and look at the pictures of the weather.

One is VISIBLE.
Second is INFRA-RED.
Third is WATER VAPOR.

They never have a CO2 Sat picture. Because it has no relevance.

The Sun is in a higher output phase, which in turn helps increase the energy (heat among other things) radiated to the planets.

The Sun is in this phase because we are passing through the plane of the ecliptic ( the middle of the galaxy) and that is the plane upon which the most energy is radiated from the center of the galaxy.

Our solar system not only travels in a circle around the center of the galaxy, but it has a roller coaster up and down motion like a sine wave and goes above and below the plane of the ecliptic.

The greens can quit driving SUV's but it won't change CO2 levels at all, either.

Park an SUV in a garage, close the door, and leave the engine running. I bet you die, but it won't be from CO2 poisoning.

Of course, to the greens, it's only a difference of one molecule. That's not really a significant thing, in their world.

"The problem is that all this could be true, and Global Warming could still - as virtually all climate researchers believe is the case - in fact be occurring."

There really is global warming that repeats in cycles. We are warming now and we are not yet as warm as in even historical records (in Roman times there were excellent wine vinyards in Britain).

How many Hollywood movies have used the clumsy construct of having the "smart" hero trick the ignorant savages into believing he was in control of the lunar or solar eclipse that he just happened to know was coming? The movie hero uses the "natives'" ignorance and superstition to gain power over them.

So now tell me, how is this old Hollywood chestnut any different from what Al Gore and helpers are doing right now, even down to the movie hero??!!

That was my error. A 1:00 A.M. typo.

Mr. Moderator, could you please correct my spelling mistake in the title?

Common sense based sanity requires a disaster or two every now and again. Humans can become convinced that the laws of nature no longer apply and can become careless until some sort of correction comes along and reminds us that we aren't in charge. Markets are one example, social norms, government policies and political thought are others.
