Did you see the ad? It was hardly an advertisement for gays, in fact, it was the opposite, and very funny. As the headline says, it is anti-gay, if anything, but really no more than the normal reaction of two normal men to an uncomforable situation. Has everyone completely lost their sense of humor? Oh, and no animals were harmed in the making of that ad, either.
I agree with you.
The ad was a exagerrated(sp?) reaction of two straight guys to an uncomfortable situation.
I really didn't see anything else in it.
In short, we watched right up until the gag factor kicked in and we were reaching for the remote. This happened as soon as we realized what was going to happen. The (young) kids were in the room and it became a mad scramble for the control. We didn't make it, but still changed the channel. So no, we didn't feel there was any redeeming value after the first 10 seconds or so. And no, I didn't trust them any further to conclude on any note that would be a positive message. Most likely that's because they hit the bottom so fast.
So much for family viewing for the superbowl. I won't be eating another "snickers". I don't want to have to explain this stuff to 7 and 9 YO's.
If it had been two bucks smooching would that have been animal abuse?
The ad played off gay panic. And a lot of the posters here are demonstrating their own.
Frankly, they sound like a lot of little girls, going, "Oooooh, isn't that icky?"
One of the other ads that was to air later (it was a longer campaign with different endings) had a 3rd man ask if he could join their Love Boat.
I saw it. It was extremely offensive.
Humor is in the mind of the viewer. What you call funny I call sick.
Whoever thought this up isnt playing with a full deck.
I could care less about the gay stuff. You've got a guy with a candy bar dangling from his mouth like a cigarette, and his buddy just starts eating it from the other end. What's funny about that? The part where they rip out their chest hair was not amusing after this ten millionth time some variation of the "reclaim your macho slapstick bit" was shown.
Not only is it crude and offensive, it's unoriginal. If that doesn't just about sum up what the entertainment and media industries are all about today, what does?
More importantly, how could anyone in an ad agency or a company's marketing department look at that and not figure out that it'll offend a large portion of the audience you're trying to convince to buy your product?
How is it anti-gay?
Do you honestly mean that if you don't embrace or celebrate homosexuality, you're a homophobe? A gay-basher?
You should re-examine your position.
Well, it sounds like Snickers showed two men eating a Snickers bar without dividing it first, eating it in its whole form. Why would they even do that? A couple engaged in romantic activities will often share food, starting at the opposite ends and eating the food toward the middle. There can hardly be any question among adults what that was about.
Why do manufacturers have to jump on the bandwagon to confuse the young ones among us?
