Rigoberta Menchu running for president of Guatemala

Guatemala City, Feb 12 (EFE).- Indian leader and Nobel peace laureate Rigoberta Menchu announced Monday the creation of an indigenous political party and her decision to run for the Guatemalan presidency in September's election. "In the political history of Guatemala, we the indigenous people have exercised our right to elect, but not to be elected, and the time has now come to do so," Menchu said during a press conference at her home in the Guatemalan capital. Indians represent 42 percent of Guatemala's population of 13 million, with mestizos constituting the next-biggest segment. Menchu said she still has not decided which party's banner she will carry in the presidential race, but stressed she will only affiliate with an organization that is willing to embrace the agenda of the indigenous movement. Her candidacy for the presidency, Menchu explained, is backed to start off with by the Winaq political movement, an indigenous political organization that bills itself as "a choice that is different from the traditional political parties." Should her electoral plans proceed, Menchu will become the first indigenous woman in the political history of this Central American country to seek the presidency.

BARF ALERT. Another leftist to join the Hugo Chavez crowd south of our border. This explains why Evo Morales of Bolivia was seen hanging around in Guatemala not long ago. This is getting to be a menace.

I would also point out that the memoir / autobiography for which Menchu was awarded the Nobel was later proven to be a pack of lies!

This is the woman who is celebrated in a famous leftist book, "I, Rigoberta Menchu."

The book is full of falsities, but is still a popular item in the academy, and seems not to have damaged her career as a resentnik.

The fact that it's full of falsities should enhance its popularity in the academy.

She'll be running against the Charismatic Pastor of a mega church in Guatemala, Haroldo Caballeros, he went every week by air to take classes at Harvard.

She has a history of lying, so she would make for a perfect politician.

This is just too disgusting for words. Another exposed professional liar and fraud.

People should pray for Guatemala.

Whoah- I expect to read a headline like this on April 1, but unfortunately it's still February. There's a serious Commie congregation, and Putin is acting up big time, not to mention North Korea and China flexing their weapons. Then Iran, and those creeps throwing a fit about the walkway repairs in Jerusalem.

But Rigoberta Menchu? Only the Al Gore envirocommie crowd could buy this thoroughly discredited individual. I think extending Orwell's 2 minute hate sessions to a 24/7 foaming loathing conformist hatred of of President Bush by the left once again proved the cult formula works, even large-scale.

/step AWAY from the kool-aid!

Maybe she can plagiarize Joe Biden's speeches - although she makes up enough stuff on her own.

Belize, is a Westminster style constitutional monarchy. It is probably harder, but not impossible for someone to gain power there on a basis of name alone. The Prime Minister has to share the spotlight with the Governor-General and Her Majesty the Queen.

To be Prime Minister you first have to be elected to parliament, and then work your way up from a back bench MP, to a cabinet post, and then party leader and Prime Minister.

You have to have more than a name, you have to be able to work with people, and prove yourself.
