Can we really support these troops [12 OUT OF 10 BARFIES!]
The Bridge ^ | Feb. 14, 2007 | June Scorza Terpstra

Posted on 02/14/2007 8:52:15 AM PST by Alouette

During a heated debate in a class I teach on social justice, several US Marines who had done tours in Iraq told me that they had "sacrificed" by “serving” in Iraq so that I could enjoy the freedom to teach in the USA. Parroting their master’s slogan about “fighting over there so we don’t have to fight over here,” these students proudly proclaimed that they terrorized and killed defenseless Iraqis. They intimated that their Arab victims are nothing more to them than collateral damage, incidental to their receipt of some money and an education.

Sunday, February 11— A room full of students listened as a US Marine told of the invasion of Baghdad and Falluja and how he killed innocent Iraqis at a check point. He called them “collateral damage” and said he had followed the “rules.”

A Muslim-American student in front of him said “I could slap you but then you would kill me.” A young female Muslim student gasped “I am a freshman; I never thought to hear of this in a class. I feel sick, like I will pass out.”

I knew in that moment that this was what the future of teaching about justice would include: teaching war criminals who sit glaring at me with hatred for daring to speak the truth of their atrocities and who, if paid to, would disappear, torture and kill me. I wondered that night how long I really have in this so called “free” country to teach my students and to be with my children and grandchildren.

The American military and mercenary soldiers who “sacrificed” their lives did not do so for the teacher’s freedom to teach the truth about the so-called war on terror, or any of US history for that matter. They sacrificed their lives, limbs and sanity for money, some education and the thrills of the violence for which they are socially bred. Sacrificing for the “bling and booty” in Iraq or Afghanistan, Philippines, Grenada, Central America, Mexico, Somalia, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or any of the other numerous wars and invasions spanning US history as an entity and beginning with their foundational practice of killing the Indians and stealing their land.

Many of the classes that I teach now include students who “served” in the US military and security corporations. There are also many students who intend to join the US military upon completion of a degree because with the degree they get a bigger “sign on” bonus of ten to fifty thousand dollars. Their position is supported by many of the student body, who, vegetating according to the American Plan, believe they should “support their troops.”

The excuses that they give for joining or intending to join the US military terrorist training camps are first and foremost motivated by a desire for money. One student proudly said that he is willing to kill for money, a better standard of living and an education. Another student, who had done two tours of duty to the Empire in Iraq, justified killing and torture, citing the importance of staying on top as the world’s number one super power so that his family could have the highest standard of living and unlimited access to the world’s oil supplies.

Will kill for bootyYet another soldier-student said that there would always be wars and someone had to do it. The ”it” is killing, rape, and plunder for profit. Some of the soldier-students agreed that military terrorism was thrilling. Stopping and killing people at checkpoints in order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle in the USA was worth the risk of being killed or maimed. Little did they know that the very education they would kill for could include a course on social justice in which they would be compelled to examine their motives, beliefs and actions in an evil, illegal, immoral and unjust invasion and occupation of a people who never hurt or harmed them or any of their fellow citizens.

To be fair, in this week’s discussion in class there was some mention that some of the student’s intentions had been honorable at the time that they joined the military. They wanted to “help other people”. A few woman students who want to join the military commented that they would be working to “free and defend” people here and abroad. However, for the most part and by their own admission, personal financial gain was their main focus in signing on. Their bottom line was getting the money and their thrills by joining and belonging to the biggest terrorist organization in the world, the USA. What appears to trouble the soldier student is that the rhetoric of fighting for freedom and democracy is a lie that cannot blanket the horror and guilt of their terrorism. They do not want to hear that participation in invasion and occupation, murder and pillaging, is logically inconsistent with any legitimate concept of freedom or liberation. They know the greed and programmed lust for violence that motivates them. They expect that if they can make it out alive, they get some money, a comfortable lifestyle and an education.

Their plan is to secure the oil, the diamonds, the gold, the water, the guns, the drugs, and the bling for their masters, who they hope will cut them in on the swag.

They say that someone has to be on top and they want to be on the side of the strong, not the weak. Robbing Hoods, not Robin Hoods.

And now, here they sit in my course on social justice, terrorist war criminals, wanting high paying “criminal justice” jobs in a university Justice Studies program. They want approval, appreciation and honors for terrorism, torture, and murder. They want a university degree so they can get an even higher salary terrorizing more people around the world with security companies such as Blackwater or Halliburton. They want that appropriately named “sheepskin” so they can join the CIA, FBI, and other police and track down and terrorize US residents here.

These military and mercenary terrorist-students are trained in terrorist training camps all under the USA, funded by American taxpayers. In fact, people under the USA are “sacrificing” their health care and their children’s educations while donating their tax dollars to these terrorist training camps. These terrorist camps train money hungry working class stiffs to murder, steal and plunder for the power hungry US corporate war lords. There is a saying that “if you do the crime, you do the time”. My response is that “If you do the war crimes, you will do time in hell, whether the hell of war trauma and shock, of diseases such as those caused by depleted uranium, the old-fashioned traditional hell, fire and brimstone assigned to malefactors…or the hell of sitting in a social justice class and discovering what the hell you are in hell for, or are about to be.

Are you kidding,? They have their very own Ward Churchill. The only thing in this creature's future is a big raise and tenure fast-track.

Consider the source. A simple search reveals that this America hating Communist anarchist is so far out there as to be irrelevant. I could not find any personal data on this hyphen woman, and I don't want to include links to some of the worst hate-America sites I've ever seen. If anyone can post juneemoon's bio, I'd appreciate.

Off to take a shower now...my skin is crawling.

Hmmmm. Interesting point.

In fact it is unlikely that service members would take her class in social justice, unless they were required to for a criminal justice study program.

And another thing, it looks like she sicced her very left-wing class on some young vets in her class --- if this is not just a fantasy as you said.

I have no doubt that we will soon hear from any active or inactive military that took or is still taking her class. I have a feeling it won't be the same story...

Picture of the POS here
http://www.geocities.com/unclrb/FamChron.html
Her doctorate is in education methodology. Her family doesn't seem to realize she's a communist.
Not everyone in NC thrilled they're supporting her:
"RALEIGH — North Carolina taxpayers are supporting, through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an "independent news" site that regularly features calls for the execution of George W. Bush, promotes armed uprisings in America, and receives dozens of other conspiratorial rants too bizarre to explain."
http://www.popecenter.org/news/article.html?id=1433
Here is her lovely website complete with Che picture:
http://juneterpstra.com/
and here is how she identifies herself:
"June Scorza Terpstra is an activist educator of Italian ancestry residing in North America in the Empire entity referred to as the USA." I don't understand why people like this don't just leave the country they hate so much. Uh maybe it's because academia supports their hate speech?

Yes, you are correct, this person teaches at Loyola,Chicago. However it was printed in 'The Bridge' out of Cambridge MA. I have included a credit from the online site below. The publisher ID was down at the bottom page.

No matter it is still tripe!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bridge is brought to you by Mystic River Green-Rainbow Action and the dedicated working committee of this Cambridge and Somerville community newspaper.

I must agree that this sounds like a sick fantasy. The author wants to make a point so they make up these incidents. If it isn't a fantasy, then it goes to prove the point of the paranoia and delusions of the left-wing professors.

If anyone can post juneemoon's bio, I'd appreciate.

Well, she posted this on her blog in response to the "veteran" she doubtless paid to comment on her garbage.

Right after the second Iraq invasion I attempted to bring in two speakers and the university I worked for at the time came after me with a vengence. I fought that with legal help and people backed down but it has not been until this last semester that I brought in outside speakers again.

That implies that she worked for another university in 2003, and then left sometime between then and now. It'd be interesting to learn why she left.

I simply don't believe her story about the university fighting her for bringing a couple of anti-war speakers to campus, but OTOH it's clear to me that she didn't leave voluntarily because of the way she speaks of her former employer. That rules out her being tenured at that other university - she could have molested children in her classes and still not have been fired if she had tenure.

If I had to put money on it, I'll bet the author of this piece was some graduate student in one of the victimhood make-work "degree" programs (womyn's studies, ethic studies, etc.) who couldn't even make the academic "standards" there, was cut loose and then somehow wound up at Loyola.

"Dr. June Scorza Terpstra teaches as Loyola University in Chicago."

If that's the case Loyola doesn't seem to know about it. I searched their faculty directory and there's no entry for this joker anywhere. A lot of web-published commie rants, but nothing else of note. Dr. Terpstra does have a website here, where more of the same nonsense is published.

As for the paper that published this, The Bridge is put out by a Cambridge, Massachussets group called "Mystic River Green-Rainbow Action" who focus on "Green-Rainbow issues," whatever those are.

Sounds like a bunch of throwback hippies and unreconstructed Commie revolutionaries in an anti-government circle-jerk to me.

Any time you see the code words "social justice" you know it means a far left, America and capitalism are the root of all evil agenda. Plus white Americans are responsible for all the poverty and racism in this country and the world.

The author who pronouces in this stylized claptrap is a Prof at a Jesuit University in Chicago, Loyola. The sources used in this diatribe of non creative writing should be questioned, and appear to be not authoritative resorting to utilizing unsupported text and fictional characterization. Therefore is a inept attempt at submitting a thesis and conclusion which lacks credability.

I don't know. Sounds like the same crap a friend of mine put up with upon returning from Korea in 1953 and enrolling in CCNY. My bud says it made him crazy to have to listen to all the Left Wing BS at the time, classes with themes like "What's New on the Left! vs Threat from the Right!" as he put it (not an actual course title).

Soft headed, seditious, lefties intent on indoctrinating their students seem to be a constant in academia.
It was the political science/anthropology/sociology profs I had that were the most militantly leftist. Lot's of talk of agrarian reformers, worker's democracy, ad nauseum.

One instructor had written a monograph praising Vietnam anti-war types, published by the University press and made it required reading for all his students. Another prof was an activist member of CESPES (pro-communist guerilla Committee on something or other for El Salvador)during the El Salvadoran and Nicarauguan wars of the 80's in Central America.

The personable ones could be fun and intellectually stimulating, the doctrinaire-Stalinist types gave off the vibe that they'd just as soon put the conservative students up against a wall, and probably would if given half a chance.
Religion, philosophy and history instructors seemed more interested in academic excellence than in trying to wage to political war.
As another poster puts it, Just My Two Cents.
