DUAL citizens who work to divide Australia rather than unite it should be stripped of their Australian citizenship, Treasurer Peter Costello said today.

"If somebody is an Australian citizen and also, let's say, an Egyptian citizen and that person doesn't support what this country stands for... I think we'd be within our rights to say to that person, well, Australia's not for you," Mr Costello told Macquarie Radio.

Peter Costello is John Howard's most likely successor as Prime Minister of Australia, assuming Howard retains office at the next Federal Election.

Australia will remain in good hands.

Assuming he wins -- currently his party is behind in the polls. Hopefully Australians will come to their senses when it is time to actually vote.

If anything happened to John Howard, the Deputy Prime Minister, Mark Vaile, would take over as 'Caretaker' Prime Minister, until a successor could be chosen. That would most likely be Peter Costello.

Plenty of time - the government was this far behind in both 1998 and 2001 this far before the elections. And Labor's new leader is still in his honeymoon period.

Not exactly.

The current Australian government is a coalition of the Liberal Party of Australia and the National Party of Australia. The Liberal Party has more seats in Parliament, and so the Prime Minister is the Leader of the Liberal Party, and the Deputy Prime Minister is the Leader of the National Party.

If something happened to the Prime Minister, the Governor General would immediately appoint a 'caretaker' Prime Minister. This would almost certainly be the Deputy Prime Minister, but it doesn't have to be - it isn't automatic.

As soon as is practical, the Liberal Party would choose a new Leader and he or she would take over as Prime Minister at that point.

When Prime Minister Harold Holt (Leader of the Liberal Party) disappeared without trace on the 17th December 1967, it was two days before the Governor General asked his (unofficial) Deputy Prime Minister, John McEwan (Leader of the Country Party - forerunners of the Nationals) to serve as Prime Minister. Because of Christmas, it was the 10th January 1968 before the Liberal Party was able to choose John Gorton as their new Leader, and he became Prime Minister.

What would it take for Australia to do the following:

1: Pass this into law?

2: Actually prosecute someone under the provision?

3: Provide more than selective high profile prosecutions?

International outcry that results if they try to strip citizenship of someone with refugee status would be a situation. So, does this sound more like a indirect jab at that crazy Egyptian born cleric, or a election season stunt? What say you?

Ignore the polls. They are conducted by the lefty MSM and are Always reported in ways that favor the Labor party.

Quick for instance: Howard's plan to have a major river under Fed Govt Control. Reported by MSM as "costing tax payers 10 billion dollars".

Rudd, the new guy in opposition, wants to have more day care, free training for day care staff, and a host of other Free education stuff. This was NOT reported as costing tax payers anything, even though it would, obviously.

My prediction: Howard's party wins. For them to lose will take Two elections. This one to get close and next one to go over - assuming the Labor party could make it to a second election without self destructing again.

FYI: In the last 50 odd years the ONLY time the Lefties have been in power was Gough Whitlam in 1972 - sacked from government in 1975 - and Bob Hawke from 1983 to 1991 when his treasurer Paul Keating took over and was defeated by Howard in 1996. Australian's lean Right on a Federal level and Left on a State level.
