How about banning 'global warming,' 'right to choose,' 'gay marriage,' 'Bush lied,' and 'Hillary Clinton?' :)

How about just banning "gangsta" rap. There are a vanishingly few artists
I like in the
rap genre, but it's not all guns and misogyny.
I'm sure if I were more familiar with the genre I could find better examples, but to say nothing good ever came from rap based on what little we hear of it is like basing our opinions on poetry on the schmaltzy hallmark cards we see in the drugstore.

They are banning "Normal"? Very apropos for New York.
Seriously though, this really upsets me. I remember hearing about people getting in trouble in a corporate environment for using the words "niggardly" and "pedagogy". Don't ask me what they thought pedagogy meant. The etymology of niggardly has nothing to do with nigger, but everything gets tarred by association. Speaking of which, tar baby used to be an innocent expression, but not now.

"Lawmakers should be smart enough to realize that they can't make laws banning words - First Amendment."
I'm sure the Marxists Ginsburg, Stevens, et al, can find a soviet penumbra to ban free speech. It would be for the common public good. They might even throw in the death penalty.

1st Amendment Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Why allow the government to leech our liberties from us? Not that I like the n word, or a number of other offensive and vile words. But I honor the First Amendment above some hurt feelings.

>>What's the penalty for violating the "ban".? <<
My guess is the opportunity to sue the city for a violation of one's freedom to speech. No way this law holds.

Hey now, they are DOING something. If they didn't DO something, we would all be able to see just how truly useless most politicians are. /sarc...maybe

I haven't yet seen any proposals that would ban thinking certain things, although the way things are, I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't next. What do you mean next? What do you think "hate crime laws" are. They are nothing more that thought crime laws.

Would that ban include blacks using that word too, I wonder? I wonder if they would consider banning the words "cracker" and "honkey". I doubt it.
To: sergeantdave
They might even throw in the death penalty.
They're saving that for people who own a bible.
To: Lucas McCain
Are they going to identify which N-word they are talking about. How about "Nazi"?

There are other words that will also be banned if they get away with this one. This just opens the door. BINGO!
