Why would we stay at home? My plan is to vote a straight republican ticket. Not that I routinely do so, but just so I could say that I did. If the republican candidate is rudy, I will write in the name of the republican who deserves it, Duncan Hunter. Some people would leave the top spot blank, some would vote 3rd party. No GOP candidate has ever won election as president with a split socon base, and rudy would prove to be no exception.

Now that I’m done answering your false dilemma, why don’t you answer mine in post #396?

Baloney. It takes time, but progress is being made.

The latest Supreme Court decision on partial birth abortion atests to this. If we continue with a pro-life President, more and more justices apt to vote to protect human life, the foremost of our unalienable rights, will be put on the bench and ultiately Roe v. Wade will be completely over turned.

I do not flinch in the least from stating that as an aim and praying for, looking forward to, and rejoicing in the day it becomes reality.

With a pro-abortion president, we will lose whatever ground we have gained and will have to wait another generation.

Rush has said he (like Hannity) has a challenge on some issues with Rudy. He has said that he will not be engaged in the conversation this early.
Rush has a long time personal relationship with Rudy ... that may not carry to an endorsement. He also understands that Rudy has the best chance by far to defeat Hillary by enough of a margin that Congress comes back in play.

The most important polls today are:
1. favorable / unfavorable - negatives here are hard to overcome and it costs a lot of bucks to get out of the “don’t know” category e.g. Hillary - big negatives. Rudy and McCain - big positives.
Thompson (less so) and all the others have to get out of the “don’t know”
2. fund raising - RG is raising very large amounts of bucks and does not have to spend for name ID e.g. Romney can raise the bucks but has to pour into ID.

The article this morning about Thompson wanting to use the Internet to offset his late start in bucks is pure fantasy -with less than 8 months till the first primary and no organization in place

I have zero love for Giuliani, but this attack is unfair. The way it works in NY is that you get endorsed by various tickets, and you can have your name on several lines of the ballot if you get more than one party to endorse you. I’m sure anyone running for office would love to be on both the Republican and Democratic line.

You might want to check with Joe Trippi and Howard Dean about what money can be raised on the internet when the base is motivated.

I understand your cynicism- and normally might agree with you. Call me naive- but I have a sense that Fred is going to run things a little differently than we’re accustomed to.

You know the old adage about nothing being so compelling as an idea whose time has come...

America will be the laughing stock of the world!!

I've said that myself on here. I'm humiliated at just the thought of it.

That wasn't the dilemma I tried to present at all. Don't jump to any conclusions. In fact I completely agree that Hillary is very beatable. I think any candidate that doesn't split the Republican base should beat her like a drum.

Lets say Guli starts getting hammered from the conservative base as the liberal he is. Let;s go on to say further that he either loses in the primaries OR drops out before the primaries complete. He goes into negotiations with the wicked witch of the northeast and (after some guarantees about state parks and suicides) agrees to be her VP. All of a sudden you have a losing ticket becoming dangerous. I have long suspected a Clinton/Obama ticket as an extension of the leftist delusion we have been seeing but now I worry about a Clinton/Guli or a Clinton/"someone else billable as moderate".

I think Guli has to be crushed quickly as a candidate because he is more dangerous then the people honest enough to actually call themselves democrats.

It is quite obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about. A candidate needs to declare to raise money. He will have no problem raising all of the money he needs when he gets in. You might remember four years ago that John sKerry was mortgaging houses and so forth to fund his campaign, as soon as he beat Howard Dean in Iowa, the money followed.

Several have gone down today trashing Ronald Reagan.

It’s like they want it. I know what not to say here, and it’s not much of a burden not to say it. Just don’t repeat negative things about good conservatives once the claims have been shown to be false.

It’s not that hard.

Rooty must have promised ‘Ol Sean that he would be his pick for press secretary if elected. Little known to Hannity, that means taking Rooty’s suits to the cleaners.

Another fact you are overlooking, Romney is incredibly wealthy and it is his money, so there are no finance laws in place. He could easily fund his campaign if he decided to.

The last few months have been very odd.

I do not look forward to the “real” primary season.

Trippi and Dean are a correct model .... problem Thompson has are:
1. apparently can’t declare till June at earliest due to TV deal ... not sure how his reported new ABC contract will further complicate the date
2. Trippi and Dean began almost 2 years before the first primary ... if June is his earliest marker for declaring ...he has less than 7 months before the first primary and the money committments for media, hotel, staff etc is months before - actually NOW.
The sheer logistics of assembling an Internet operation are mind boggling ... costly ... etc etc etc

it is not cynicism ... but pragmatics.

I am a strong Rudy supporter and Thompson in the race is great news for Rudy. he just crowds the people fighting for the same votes. RG has already targeted where his primary votes are going to come from
1. 20% of vote that is liberal he will own
2. good amount of moderates
3. smattering of conservatives
that will add up to 30-35% of initial Iowa, NH, SC, Fl vote.
Field will narrow when you get to following week in Calif, NY, NJ, Pa, etc etc where he is favored anyway and he will push 50% in these huge mega states.
game set match

can things go wrong - sure - but always check the London gambling sites for the “best polls”

many (most) on this site are focused on abortion, gun control ... fair enough ... but that is not where the vast majority of people’s visceral concerns are.

I'm not caving to anything. I firmly believe the issue of our times is Islamo-Fascism and Rudy certainly recognizes that...at least he's the only one I've heard loud and clear.

I almost stayed home the last election based on principes--NJ had no one to vote for. I was voting against Pelosi and Reid. I will vote against Hillary at all costs.

I abhor abortion. There has been abortion on demand since Roe with little to no change for decades. Hillary would use abortion as a litmus test for judges, without a doubt.

I guess it simply wouldn’t surprise me to see rudy on the democratic ticket. He has no party loyalty; after all, he endorsed Mario Cuomo over George Pataki for governor.

The Giuliani Groupies are a sad lot in deep denial. He was a good mayor, but that is as far as it goes.

Sean Hannity has this strange “identification” thing with certain politicians and personalities. He is wrong on Rudy -he cannot be trusted on the judges. I also think that like most of us, he is terrified of Hillary and feels that only Rudy can beat her.
