Kuwait govt resigns ahead of vote on health minister

KUWAIT (Reuters) - Kuwait's government resigned on Sunday, parliament members said, in a move aimed at thwarting a planned no-confidence motion against a health minister who is also a member of the ruling family.

Kuwaiti cabinet submits its resignation -- minister of state al-Shatti

KUWAIT, March 4 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Cabinet has submitted its resignation to His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Ismael Al-Shatti on Sunday.

Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), he said the ministers submitted their resignations to His Highness the Prime Minister to take whatever steps needed in the public interest.

The resignation was instigated by "the government's inability to carry out its duties with the current parliament." Asked whether the resignation reflected the parliament's lack of cooperation with the government, he said, "This is a phrase usually used by MPs." (end) nas.ws.

It's a "political thing" about a conflict between the royal family and parliament.

Reuters has an updated article with more info here.
