Iraqi soldiers opened fire on an alleged would-be suicide bomber as he sped towards the checkpoint into Baghdad's al-Yarmuk neighborhood on Tuesday, killing him before the explosive-laden car could crash into the outpost. I cringe every time I see the word "alleged" inserted into a sentence. It implies there there is some uncertainty. If he was not a suicide bomber, then why is he driving around in an "explosive-laden" car?

did the car explode AFTER he was shot?? the car in the pic certainly looks like it blew up, but the guy in the front seat with the hole in the back of his head shouldn't be there if in fact the car blew itself to smitherines..he should be in 100 different pieces methinks..

And the Iraqi Army (unlike the US Army)
doesn't have to answer to the ACLU!!
Do not underestimate this aspect of ROE changes in "the Surge".
A lot of Iraqi units are spotty, but some are very good. And others are gaining confidence as we speak. NOTHING builds confidence more than engaging and succeeding. There's a bit of bragging going on in that Iraqi unit today, and it ought to be encouraged.
