Dollar Coins Missing 'In God We Trust'

U.S. Mint Says Unknown Number of New One Dollar Coins Missing 'In God We Trust' Inscription
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- An unknown number of new George Washington dollar coins were mistakenly struck without their edge inscriptions, including "In God We Trust," and made it past inspectors and into circulation, the U.S. Mint said Wednesday.

The properly struck dollar coins, bearing the likeness of George Washington, are inscribed along the edge with "In God We Trust," "E Pluribus Unum" and the year and mint mark. They went into circulation Feb. 15.
The mint struck 300 million of the coins, which are golden in color and slightly larger and thicker than a quarter.
About half were made in Philadelphia and the rest in Denver. So far the mint has only received reports of error coins coming from Philadelphia, mint spokeswoman Becky Bailey said.
Bailey said it was unknown how many coins didn't have the inscriptions. Ron Guth, president of Professional Coin Grading Service, one of the world's largest coin authentication companies, said he believes that at least 50,000 error coins were put in circulation.
"The first one sold for $600 before everyone knew how common they actually were," he said. "They're going for around $40 to $60 on eBay now, and they'll probably settle in the $50 range."

Oh that's great. GW will be on both the quarter and the dollar coins, and they'll be close to the same size.
They're already on Ebay with some people asking 200+ for the coins.

And how many years until GWB is the dollar image?
The new dollar coin is exactly the same size as the previous Sacajawea version.
At the rate of four being released every year the President Bush 43 version won't be out until the 11th year, so in 2018.
The same year that Bill and Hillary Clinton get put on the US Currency. Barf!
It's also the same size as the Susan B. Anthony dollar too. But at least the portrait was different. I don't think there's enough difference between the size of a quarter and a dollar coin to easily differentiate them. There's a reason US citizens keep rejecting dollar coins of that size, even though inflation keeps decreasing the value of coins. Even if it took 4 quarters to buy what one quarter used to, most people would rather use 4 quarters rather than on dollar coin.
I picked up a couple rolls of the new dollar coins last week, 25 to a roll. I've been using them all over town. People are amazed when they see them. I personally like the design and will do my part to help get them into circulation.
I wish the U.S. Mint would just leave our currency alone. The new nickles are very easily mistaken as quarters. Only a feel around the edges tells the difference. They won't leave the bills alone either. Can anyone imagine what problems they are causing the blind population who knew currency value by texture? This wasn't just the blind but many bank tellers used to be able to count money accurately without looking at it.
These coins are already being priced at $50-average.
Does Mr. Gramsci work in the U.S. Mint?
This was no accident. Someday, some employees will tell the story, maybe in a book.
And worth the same amount.
The Inspectors took a cut of this deal.
