A former Iranian deputy defense minister who disappeared from Turkey last month is not cooperating with Western intelligence agencies and his whereabouts remain a mystery, a U.S. official told FOX News Thursday
[A] senior U.S. official flatly denied the [Washington Posts] report
The official did not rule out the possibility that Asgari, who once commanded Irans elite Revolutionary Guards and served as the countrys deputy defense minister, was conducting negotiations with an intelligence organization, but denied that there was any type of cooperation with the U.S.

Ahhh huh.
Yea, that's the WP story from information yesterday. Not sure why today's story from Fox is different. But it is.
It's actually good to have conflicting info because it keeps Iran on their toes without knowledge about how to alter plans.
So let me get this straight.
Iran claims we kidnapped this guy.
The Washington Post claims we have him and he is singing like a bird.
Now we officially deny having ever seen him.
Why did the Washington Post make their claim. Did they have a leaker tell them this ? If they got information from a CIA leaker then they divulged crucial intelligence information. If they had no information why would they publish this crap.
IMO these CIA leaks have to stop and someone doing the leaking needs hanging, and whoever published the leak needs to hang with them.
There is no way we can gather intelligence and have it published in the papers the next day. What has to happen before someone is charged with treason?
If the Post made this story up they need to be closed down for falsely pingin stories that arent true.
That's what I was thinking. Whether or not the conflicting reports are intentional or not won't alter the increased confusion in Teheran over this.
"A former Iranian deputy defense minister who disappeared from Turkey"
No, he disappeared from a hotel inside Turkey.
"is not cooperating with Western intelligence agencies"
All? Some? One? Is Turkey's considered "Western?"
"The official did not rule out the possibility that Asgari, who once commanded Irans elite Revolutionary Guards and served as the countrys deputy defense minister, was conducting negotiations with an intelligence organization,"
IOWs, Turkey.
who are the Iranians supposed to believe ... ;-)
This story will be the subject of quite a bit of deliberate misinformation over the next few weeks. Best not to take any of it to heart.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'd say, too.
If I were an Iranian who had specialized knowledge, and I were going to defect to the west and cut some kind of deal, I wouldn't go to Turkey. I'd go to France.
And, as we all know, there is nothing that the French won't sell, to include closely guarded information. To us, or anybody else.
Well - the good thing is, all these conflicting reports should keep the mullahs sweating in their socks.
What any official says in such a situation is totally irrelevant to the realityof it. It doesn't mean he is lying, just that what he says is not determined by what is hapening at al.
Standard tradecraft at work.
It could also be that Fox is asking different sources who are not in the loop. Still good. The Iranians mullahs, confusion to em!
