Well, you can either allow people to own guns to protect themselves, or you can try to do the job for them by hiring 55,000 police.
I wouldn't call the 2nd choice "limited-government fiscal conservatism", but some do.
One thing is sure -- if you hire more police than the next 4 largest city police forces in the country COMBINED, you can get your crime rate slightly lower than those other cities.

But it was never very high to start with!

I used to live not real far from Geuda Springs...
If you barely ( and I mean barely....) blinked...you missed Geuda Springs, KS.
