BERKELEY City Council considers role in Rumsfeld war crimes case Carolyn Jones, Chronicle Staff Writer

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

The Berkeley City Council was in the spotlight Tuesday night as it grappled with whether to become the first U.S. government entity to support the prosecution of former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other Bush administration officials for war crimes.

If the council approves the resolution, Berkeley would become a co-plaintiff if Germany files a criminal complaint against Rumsfeld, former CIA Director George Tenet, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and other U.S. officials for their alleged involvement with torture at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay.

Berkeley has a long history of protesting U.S. policy, but the city manager recommended that the council stop short of participating in the prosecution of Rumsfeld and his associates.

"Charging United States officials with crimes in a foreign country is of course a very serious matter," City Manager Phil Kamlarz wrote in a memo to the council.

Gee, Phil, you think?

Not sure if this should have had a BARF alert or just a ROFLMAO alert.

We keep pushing our City Council to do things like fix the roads. They must have a lot of free time on their hands over in California.

This would be an act of war and Berkley will be subject to recriminations and destruction of municipal property.

Why do I get the impression that the Berkeley city council is a bunch of D&D gamers that never really grew up?

So these people think it is their business to get involved in this kind of thing, but it is ONLY the Federal Governments issue to enforce the immigration laws?
What a bunch of idiots.
Oh, and the city council is NOT a "U.S. government entity".

Why is the story NOT about why Treason is openly tolerated?

For every lib asking for war crimes, there should be 10 questions on why traitors get away with embolding America's enemies 24/7.

March these traitors across the DMZ into North Korea.

Nah, they need fixed there too--along with the lack of jobs, crappy housing, etc., etc., etc...but this is more important to the mouth-breathers in Bezerkley.

I think the CIA should start spraying Mexican marijuana fields with Thorazine. That'd pretty well take care of the Berkeley $hitty Council.

> Why is the story NOT about why Treason is openly tolerated?

Specifically, in this case, because the SF Chronicle doesn't think treason is a terribly serious matter and, in fact, supports it.

Every time I hear of a new farcical event in Berkeley I think of SNL but most of them are too inane for the show to use.

That is a great idea and would help deal with the leftists all across this country.

No, you didnt-war crimes only apply to America, as far as these pinko boobs think. Ever notice how these clowns decry the conditions at Gitmo or Abu Grahib, but never mention the conditions at Tehachapi, Folsom or San Quentin?

Berkeley is full of leftist moonbats. I'm surprised they didn't also call for Bush's head.

These yahoos can conduct a War Crimes trial and the City of Hazelton, PA can't police illegal immigants? What a great place.

They probably held that off to the summer solstice meeting's agenda...

Not if you are the Berkeley City Council. Then it is just another silly stunt.
