President Bush visited soldiers and Marines at the physical therapy wing of Walter Reed Army Center in Washington today. Afterwards, the president spoke at Walter Reed’s Red Cross Hall, praising the doctors and nurses for their extraordinary care of the troops and promising that the problems found in the center--and the bureaucracy--will soon be fixed. (Transcript)

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with Guinea-Bissau Foreign Minister Antonio Isaac Monteiro and Brazil's Foreign Minister Celso Amorim at the State Department in Washington.

Quote of the Day:

President Bush: The soldiers and Marines stay here only for a few months, but the compassion they receive here stays with them for a lifetime. And so on behalf of a grateful nation, I do want to thank our docs and our nurses and care givers for providing extraordinary health care to the people who wear the uniform.

I know full well that the work you do is behind the scenes. In other words, you don't get a lot of glory for what you do. But you certainly do from the family members, who first come here and they see their loved one on a bed, wondering whether or not that person will ever walk again. And then, six months later, the body is returning and the spirit is strong, the person is up and moving around -- the family and the soldier is impressed by that care.

None of the problems that we have uncovered can overshadow the great work you do here. That's what you have to know. It's a special calling to serve those who serve our country. It requires a unique person to come here on a daily basis, and to heal the hurts of those who served our country.

And so our nation is grateful, and I'm proud to be your Commander-in-Chief.

Snugs Update

From Snugs, posted earlier this afternoon:

Update on Dad. He has had another abdominal Xray this time with dye.

This has confirmed that there is no blockage but wind stopping the bowel working. They are going to the tubing again over the weekend and hopefully clear him out completely and then assess the situation on Monday as for his fitness for the op.

When I left this evening they had made him nil by mouth again because they do not want more and more build up and they are going to give him some nutrients that by pass the bowel I suppose some vitamin supplements of some kind to keep his strength up. They are allowing him to have water though. The plan is that if they keep him off solids over the weekend and with this tubing it will clear him out and we can then be in a position by Monday to start preparing him for threatre. Whether they will want to put him back on solids for day or so I do not know but probably no if they are feeding him with vitamins etc.

I am at my friend's house tonight so will not be up on FR - I am staying the night and will log on tomorrow from home sometime. Wow I did not realise that dial up was so slow my dial up is much faster on the odd ocassion I have to use it.

Thanks, if I get a chance I will log on later but probably will have an early night

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers

Eleanor

Setting the Record Straight:
Democrats Are Delaying Funding For Our Troops

Democrats Are Pandering To Their Extreme Base
At The Expense Of Funding For Our Troops

"Fifty-three days after President Bush submitted his Iraq war emergency supplemental funding proposal, Democrats in Congress have not yet sent the President a bill he can sign. General Pace has made clear that there will be real consequences if we do not fund the troops by mid-April, and it is troubling that House Democrats have not even appointed conferees to resolve the differences between versions passed by the House and Senate. Instead of playing politics, Democrats should fund the troops with a bill that does not force retreat, handcuff our commanders, or contain billions of dollars in pork spending."

- White House Deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino, 3/30/07
