Vice President chastises Democrats during Chicago stop

Vice President Dick Cheney delivered a scathing report card Friday on the Democrat-controlled Congress that marks its 100-day milestone this weekend, rebuking its leadership for trying to usurp foreign policy and military operations.

Cheney continued the Bush administration's denouncement of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's recent trip to Syria, saying "we don't need 535 secretaries of state," referring to the number of lawmakers in Congress.

"No member of Congress, Democrat or Republican, has any business jetting around the world with a diplomatic agenda contrary to that of the president and the secretary of state. It is for the executive branch, not the Congress, to conduct the foreign policy of the United States of America," Cheney said to applause during a leadership gathering here of the conservative group the Heritage Foundation.

The Bush administration has condemned Pelosi's trip to Syria because it considers the country to be a state supporter of terrorism.

Pelosi has defended her trip throughout the Middle East and has said she thinks it helped President Bush.

Lawmakers from both parties commonly travel to the Middle East, and some Republicans were in the region when Pelosi was there. Some also have been in Syrian President Bashar Assad's office.

The second-highest ranking Democrat in the Senate, Dick Durbin of Illinois, planned a Friday afternoon news conference to respond to Cheney's comments.

Cheney also assailed the Democrats for trying to "micromanage" the war in Iraq and tie funding for it to a troop-withdrawal timetable, a move he called unacceptable.

God Bless Dick Cheney. The DemocRAT party wishes it had one person with half the wit, decency, and strength of this man. He is an American treasure. All those who demean him are such shallow persons in contrast.

Go Dick go! If anyone can dish it out to Repugnant Pelosi, Dick Cheney is the man. He’s a great deal more than her equal.

Why is it that our fine Vice President seems like the only one with the stones to continually hammer this point home?
Others might mention it and quickly back away when challenged but Cheney has the spine to stand up to the ‘Rats.
I guess it’s the gravitas.

I love it every time he speaks out, he’s not afraid to voice what he believes in and the Dems hate him for that.

OK, truthful and tough words. But now what is the WH going to do about Pelosi's usurpation of her power? How about calling her actions exactly what they are, t-r-e-a-s-o-n, and then setting the Justice Department on her with the charge? Pelosi is exercising powers that are not given to her by the Consitition, she is willfully undermining foreign policy that is crucial to America's well being, and all the political rehtoric in the world isn't going to stop the treasonous dems. The future of America is at stake now and this is no joking matter, nothing to be viewed merely as "political differences". What Pelosi and her ilk are doing transcends politics, she is trying to destroy our country through treason.

Not possible. As soon as such a man existed among them, he would switch parties.

Let me ask you, what do you think he COULD do about it? In order to convict someone of a crime you would have to convence a jury of twelve men, some of whom would likely be DU types.

Unfortunately in today’s political climate it wouldn’t be possible to seat twelve jurors who would fairly judge the matter.

You’re right. Sorry. I misstated. I should have stated that he’s so far above her in position, intellectually, financially and politically that she’s smelling his lingering smoke.

I don’t know if it would ever happen to actually send Pelosi and Lantos to prison; highly unlikely. But at least the WH should lay down the law and prohibit anything like that from ever happening again. If the Dems continue to ignore the WH and the law, it would get very interesting.

Fox News aired a portion of what Vice President Cheney said. Bravo, Mr. Vice President!!!

In the article you posted, jazusamo, it said, “Pelosi has defended her trip throughout the Middle East and has said she thinks it helped President Bush.” To that I say, “bull pucky!!” We know all to well that Pelosi would NEVER do ANYTHING that she thought would help President Bush.
