The European Union Parliament is pressuring the Turkish Government to restore Saint Sophia Cathedral from a museum into a Greek Orthodox Church. However the Parliament has set a requirement of 1.000.000 signatures on a petition before it makes this conversation a prerequisite for Turkey's admission into the European Union.
Please sign the petition and forward to friends.

Catholic Ping, Help restore Hagia Sophia

Sounds good, but the muslims would riot worldwide and the euros would cave in as usual.

Does the entire Orthodox community really want to maintain this building?
It's not like it was ever a real church for real people ~ kind of a private chapel stocked with priests and prelates, all for the Byzantine Emperor and his family.
Right now it serves as a museum and the Turkish government bears all the costs of maintaining it.

Sounds good...and is good.
Muslims never have a problem establishing mosques anywhere in the western world. They should be forced to allow this pre eminent Cathedral to once again offer Christian prayers.

I cannot speak of all Orthodox Christians...but I’m sure about 99.9% of them want the Cathedral re-sanctified.

Can it be restored? The Muslims pretty much covered over anything that they considered related to Christianity.
It’s an amazing, magnificent building!

Its not a Muslim “Holy Place” - I doubt if they would riot. It was turned into a Mosque but is now only a museum.
If you care about Christianity and care about Islamofascism and want to show your opinion on those subjects - SIGN IT - PLEASE!!!
Muslims have no more right to be in Hagai Sophia than they have to be at the “Dome of the ROck”

Hagia Sophia was to Orthodox Christianity what St. Peter’s Basilica is to Catholics - and at one time it was THE greates Christian Cathedral ANYWHERE.

I’m Protestant Christian and I want the Cathedral to be resanctified and returned to its rightful owners - the Orthodox Church.

The Greeks never invaded Turkey. Turkey invaded Greece.
I think you have confused historical events.

And, today, it’s in an overwhelmingly Moslem country. The place is of historic interest. Reopening it isn’t going to bring back the emperor and his family to attend services there, nor would most Orthodox agree to such an eventuality.

Any ground that a muslim steps on is ‘muslim land’ in their minds. It should be restored IMO but the fact that it used to be a mosque means muslims will go on their usual murderous rampages over the idea before it ever comes to fruition. I think it should be restored to it’s original purpose.

Was this satire? Or lack of knowledge about the history of the Eastern Roman Empire?
