Warning signs SCREAMED in the faces at this school.

And nothing meaningful was done.

The guy should have been expelled and legal actions taken.

No, they coddled him instead.

I read another article that said the University tried to do something, but its hands were tied legally. Hopefully something will come out of this tragedy and it will be easier for institutions and companies to address this problem.

Giovanni said her students were so unnerved by Cho's behavior, including taking pictures of them with his cell phone, that some stopped coming to class and she had security check on her room. She eventually had him taken out of her class, saying she would quit if he wasn't removed.

Nikki Giovanni is a VERY famous politically correct poet with connections all over the place. Probably the best known person on campus. This is the first I have heard her name mentioned as one of his writing teachers. I can't IMAGINE why the administration didn't pick up on this and expel this nut case.

I don’t think the school can be blamed in a significant manner. The problem is with the Warren Court closing down the mental health institutions for anyone except those presenting a clear threat to themselves or others.

Stalking...a restraining order would have denied him the ability to buy a gun.

Arson...a felony charge would have denied him the ability to buy a gun.

Then, of course, there is the failure of the psych system to formally identify him as a violent person.

Don’t blame the Virginia gun laws when the failure to abort this nut case belongs to others.

One of the talking heads on ABC this morning said this nut’s purchase/ownership of the two handguns was perfectly legal. Was there anything in this guy’s past that would have disqualified him from buying a handgun legally? If so, it needs to be publicized that the gun laws failed, and there’s no need for more that can’t be enforced.

I have read all these comments. Tel, ya what? I bet they probably have three or four more of these nut cases running loose there. What are they going to do about them?

It's almost noon here on the east coast and this is the first I've been on FR today. Can anybody tell me if there has been any press coverage of the killer's family? His sister is supposed to be going to Princeton, and his parents live in Northern Virginia and run a dry cleaning store...at least that's what the press has disclosed about them so far.

Has there been any statement from his family as far as how sorry they are over what happened? I've had Fox News on while working at home, and haven't heard ANYTHING about or from these people. If not one media person is parked on their lawn, what the Hell is going on? A Google search for "gunman's family" brings only articles on how tough his family had it in S. Korea, and the comments therein aren't even from family members. Members of South Korea's government have expressed their remorse and sympathies. Where is this guy's family? I don't recall the media being this quiet on the famlies of other school shooters. My question is why isn't the press on this like a hot potato? Has anybody got any further info on this?

the more we learn, the more it appears that VTech really dropped the ball - not just on monday - but by not getting this kid out of there.
They were going to cut him loose with a 4.0 and be done with him.

Have the news outlets caught onto this?
No...they are talking about gun control.

Granted - it is disturbing someone this psycho can legally buy a gun.
But then again...his fanny should have been expelled a long time ago.

At the private college I went to, all incoming freshmen had to take a psychological exam. If all colleges and universities did this, they could identify a psychopath like Cho and deny him entry.

as i am sure people have pointed out, this kid could have been expelled and charged and most likely stopped from buying a gun. IF the students who accused him would have pursued it. if only...

I find it interesting that last week everyone was complaining that Duke University was at fault for temporarily suspending three students indicted on rape and kidnapping charges, but this week many are blaming Virginia Tech for not expelling a student accused of (but not foramlly charged) with stalking.
What responsibility does a university have to its students, staff, and faculty and at what point should they intervene?

Looks like the claims he suffered from sudden jihadi syndrome were way off the mark. This guy was a psycho stalker.
