Lost in all the coverage of the Virginia Tech tragedy were the sobering words of Vice President Dick Cheney about a calamity facing America that will dwarf anything it has ever experienced as a nation.
Characterizing it as "the greatest threat we face," Cheney once again raised the ugly specter of nuclear terrorism against the U.S. "It's a very real threat," he said, "something that we have to worry about and defeat every single day." Tying the warning to politicking over Iraq war policy, he said a precipitous withdrawal from that country by U.S. military forces would invite and encourage the terrorists to follow Americans home. "The fact is that the threat to the United States now of a Sept. 11 occurring with a group of terrorists armed not with airline tickets and box cutters, but with a nuclear weapon in the middle of one of our own cities, is the greatest threat we face," he said.
Coupled with this grave caution was another development that occurred under the media radar screen.
The U.S. Department of Energy announced it will donate radiation detectors to Mexico and help install them in busy seaports to prevent a terrorist attack with a nuclear weapon or "dirty bomb."
Why does the U.S. consider ports of entry into Mexico a national security threat to America?
Because, increasingly, Mexico receives cargo ships from China destined for the U.S. cargo is unloaded in Mexico and transported by land to the U.S. mostly by trucks getting a free pass at the border thanks to the NAFTA superhighway plans.
Meanwhile, however, America's own ports are unable to screen the overwhelming number of cargo containers entering the country directly because of the sheer volume of imports.

I regretfully agree with but then again I have thought this for several years. It seems we always need a Pearl Harbor to yank us into the reality of what we face.
Regardless of what crap is put out by the left we are facing a very dire future with regard to a terorist nuclear attack. It is only a matter of time.
I does seem that other countries are waking up to the true threat of islam which is world conquest. Anyone that denies that islam is about world conquest is extremely naive or a liar.
I could almost cry now at just the thought of it. I also believe that when it happens they will have smuggled two devices in and that they will take out 2 out 3; the three being NYC, DC, or LA.
It will alternately be known in history as the time when the islamic peoples committed mass suicide.
Ticks me off too.
And meanwhile our borders are still wide open. On our watch.
IMHO, I think Bush's favorability numbers would be a lot higher if it wasn't for the liberal media. They have an agenda and they are pushing it hard. They know most working folks don't have the time to really sit and listen to the news so it's all done in sound bites or in the way the print media title an article in the newspaper.
I voted for Bush twice as I did not want 8 years of Al Gore with more attacks on the U.S. going unanswered as they were during the Clinton years. I also firmly believe that the liberals are willing to do anything in their power to make sure that a republican President looks as bad, if not worse, than their impeached Mr. Clinton. Even at the expense of jeopardizing our national security. Everything they do is "pay back" for Clinton's impeachment. And remember, he was impeached. He just wasn't removed from office.
Let me say also I am not a Bushbot. I totally disagree with the way Bush has handled our immigration issues. Our borders should have been sealed shut immediately after 911, if not sooner, and I do not understand President Bush's way of thinking on this. Yes, I agree, a lot of our ancestors came through Ellis Island from other countries. But, it was a different time then. They came to better their lives. They wanted to work and speak our language and assimilate themselves into the American way of life. Not today. Today they come here expecting everything to be handed to them on a silver platter, and then have the nerve to complain that they aren't getting enough. Well, you know what, if they don't like what we have to offer, go the hell home!
.................I am very very afraid for the future of our children and grandchildren...................
And yet, many, many conservatives believe that the most important issue to rally behind in 2008 is a candidates’ stance on abortion.
Folks, if we don’t belly up to the candidate that will squash islamofascism, we won’t be wanting to have any more children!
