Gender Bash in France (J-5 : French Election Update)
The Washington Post ^ | April 29, 2007 | Jim Hoagland

How does a macho conservative politician run against a Socialist feminist who has pegged much of her campaign to the gender issue? Very carefully if you are Nicolas Sarkozy and you are in the final week of a French presidential campaign that is yours to lose.

The tone of the campaign has sharpened and become more personal in the past two days. But even when he criticizes Segolene Royal, Sarkozy is careful to express his "respect" for her "as a person and a leader." He predicts her programs will bankrupt France, but he explicitly rejects any intention to patronize her.

This gender correctness is not a matter of gallantry or politesse. It is smart campaign strategy. Royal won the Socialist Party nomination in large part because her male rivals mocked and underestimated her. They disliked her and, worse, doubted that a woman could beat any of them. Sarkozy is not repeating those mistakes.

Will France elect a woman President?

Maybe...if the candidate were competent, knowledgable, and capable of running a major country.

What will the implications be for America?

Are the unmarried Segolene, and the father of her four children, her “partner” Francois Hollande, President of the Socialist Party, the Bill and Hillary Clinton of France?

So many similarities it is scary. He is the obvious candidate, he is smarter, the better politician.

Here’s hoping she loses on Sunday and that send a loud message to Americans that Hillary would be a terrible choice for President.

Fred Thompson and his advisors are, hopefully, watching and analyzing Sarkozy’s campaign closely.

Interesting. I have always thought that Sarko was getting advice from American GOP political consultants.

Mike Murphy was in France last week, and said he would copy a lot of Sarko’s great stuff.

“...I had always been under the impression that France was already being run by its women...”

- Feminism has become the state religion of most Western countries. The US is no exception. Just as a matter of example, in the US, you’ll find feminists campaigning for the removal of urinals in order to achieve the noble goal of ‘gender-neutral’ toilets and Hillary Clinton, furthermore, stands a good chance of becoming the next US president. This woman isn’t exactly Margaret Thatcher, I think we can agree on that.

What we can hope for is Feminism to backfire. This has happened on numerous occasions here in Sweden, the country where I live. A lot of Feminists have become so embolded by their success in brainwashing the public that they no longer reflect upon what words they choose. As a consequence, their true motives then begin to shine through more and more.

It’s not difficult to make women feel that they are underpaid. On the other hand, being attracted to males, having children and starting a family is a natural instinct among women that won’t go away that easily. Therefore, Swedish feminists have met with a lot of critique and opposition by ordinary women in Sweden after saying idiotic things like ‘Death to the nuclear family’ and ‘Men are animals’.

Swedish Feminism is today a considerably WEAKER movement than it was five years ago.

The implication for America would be that Americans would ridicule France more than ever before. Considering the situation, I hope Sarkozy is elected.
